Carly relished the feeling of Collin's fingers interlacing with her own as they moved along the path at a relaxed pace. Even if all they did was walk the rest of the evening, Carly wouldn't mind, as long as she was with him. Besides it wasn't as if she had to work tomorrow considering she'd managed to get a few days off after being on call for so long. It was a welcome change especially since it meant she'd get to spend more time with Collin, it was getting to be rather hard to leave for work lately after working so many consecutive days. Well...that could be said of any other time she wasn't with Collin as well but that didn't matter right now. This was their night, no interruptions, no work, just them and whatever it was Collin had up his sleeve.
At the return question, Carly sighed and smirked slightly, shrugging her shoulders. "Hey, it was worth a shot,"Carly replied, watching as he placed a finger to his lips thoughtfully. A few moments ticked by before Carly began to wonder if he actually was going to tell her only to be told to wait as he made a directional point to the top of the hill. So...whatever it was was at the top of the hill then... They had only just started their ascent though and at their current pace it would be some time before they reached their destination. Where Carly had been content to walk alongside Collin before, she now wanted to run to the top of the hill just to find out what all the damned secrecy was about.
Unfortunately for her, Collin seemed intent on keeping up the excruciatingly slow pace he had already set. With the way he was holding her hand there wouldn't be an easy way to break free...not unless she actually wanted to hurt him. That was something she wasn't inclined to do however, just as she didn't really want to let go of Collin's hand. Even as annoying as the slow pace was, Carly knew that she would have to keep up with him at least in part. Still, that didn't mean she couldn't speed up and hope that she'd be able to force Collin to match her pace. Within a few short moments of attempting such however, Carly soon found that her efforts were in vain. It was really a futile attempt at speeding things up anyway...Collin was still the older vampire. Despite the fact that Carly had learned a lot in the few years she had been a vampire as well, she could never hope to match the strength of an older, more experienced vampire...at least for the time being. This just meant that she'd have to train harder so things like this wouldn't happen...or rather, wouldn't happen all that easily.
Carly was still trying to figure out a way to make Collin go faster when she caught a glimpse of the first of the flickering lights. All thoughts of trying to speed him along vanished upon seeing the flickering lanterns of sorts as Carly once again fell into step beside Collin. The flickering of the flames was beautiful but even more so was the way the varied shades of green that seemed to dance in the light. Entranced by the display of lanterns, Carly almost didn't notice the table in the center of the clearing at the base of the hill until Collin pointed it out. How odd that a table would be just sitting out in the middle of nowhere...even more so than the string of lanterns that had been placed around the clearing.
For the third time that night, Carly was once again struck speechless. The display of lights was something else entirely and she was beginning to wonder what else Collin was going to surprise her with. Though it was true that Carly hated surprises since it meant that secrets had been kept from her she couldn't help but admit that this was...nice... Just how long had it taken Collin to set this up anyway...heh, with how often and how late she'd been working lately he certainly had the time... Still, the intricacy of the patterns and the uttermost care with which the lights had been strung up was enchanting and Carly couldn't help but smile at the scene below, eyes dancing with the same joy as that of the flickering flames in the lanterns. It wasn't until Collin suggested they actually go down the hill and see what was there that Carly even began to come back to herself.
Nodding her head in reply, Carly once again matched Collin's pace before hearing him mention something on the table. She had been so entranced by the lights that she had completely forgotten about the table and what was on it. Now that Collin had mentioned it, she could see what appeared to be a lone rosewood and gold chest sitting on top of it. Had it been there all this time...of course it had... Collin hadn't once left her side since they'd gotten in the limo but then... He wasn't-....was he...but then he hadn't-... No...that couldn't be possible...there were other uses for a box aside from that. Besides, the chest was far too large for something like that. Carly would simply have to wait and see what Collin had in store for her.

As the ground leveled off, it became easier to walk- though it wasn't like the hills were that difficult for a vampire such as Collin but still. He didn't release Carly's hand at once, but slowly his fingers uncurled from hers as he made a more long stride forwards coming to the table only seconds before her. "Have you figured it out yet?" he teased musically before shaking his head as though to dismiss whatever could possibly said after that. Red and blue eyes focused on Carly's face as pale hands found the lid of the box. "In this box are three boxes," he stated drumming his fingers on the lid briefly. "Two are from the past and one is for the future," he chuckled softly tilting his head to one side and causing his hair to slide a little to one side in the process. "They are completely randomized," he stated bluntly before briefly chuckling yet again. Why was it only now that h couldn't seem to stop laughing? Maybe it was the fact that more than just having fun, Collin was coming to the point of this entire thing. A part of him made him nervous. The other part just remained as cool and as easy as before he had started to plan for it at all.
"You can open them in any order, but you can only open one at a time," he continued before leaning on the box lazily. "Don't rush either," he ordered leaning his head on his hand and his elbow on the box. "That'd take the fun out of it." Yes. This was fun. This was more fun than he had had in a while to be honest. He enjoyed making her surprised and excited and worried all at the same time. A sadistic part of Collin assured him it was just because Carly was the cutest thing when she squirmed. The other part knew better and found her mannerisms and strength of retort even when in flustering situations more than admirable. It was what had kept her around. He was sure of that fact. "Care to take a peak?" he mused leaning off the box and then pulling the lid open.
Sure enough, within the box were three smaller boxes each decorated gorgeously in various ribbons and bows. The fist one was covered in red wrapping paper and tied up in two splendid yellow and gold ribbons drawn together at the top to make a bow. It was a bit larger than the box beside it but otherwise didn't seem to have any characteristic shape of any sort. The second box was wrapped just as extravagantly in sparkling blue wrapping paper and red ribbons. The bow this time was tied up and all but resembled flowers on the top shimmering with the reflective surface that came with it. The third box was more simplistic than its neighbors but still harbored a beauty of its own. It appeared to be a pure white box tied gently with a white and silver bow but showing nothing else grand about it. "Pick one," he mused.

As they continued their descent down the hill, Carly's eyes shifted from the box, the flickering lights, and Collin. Try as she might she simply couldn't figure out what he had in mind or even why he had brought her here to begin with. The sight was breathtaking no doubt but still...why was there a single chest on the table. Had Carly realized just how close her initial guess was to what was in store for the evening, she would have once again tried to race to the table in the center of the clearing. This wasn't the case however considering Carly was trying desperately not to get her hopes up even if all the events of the evening seemed to lead up to. It was the only other explanation she could come up with but...if that turned out not to be true... The last thing Carly wanted was to be disappointed after Collin had clearly put so much effort into making the evening special for her.
It wasn't until Collin's hand slowly slipped from her own that Carly realized that they had reached the table. She had been so distracted by her own thoughts and trying to tame the rising excitement that came with a mystery that was about to be solved to notice. Collin's musical voice brought a smile to Carly's features as he teased her about the question that had been plaguing her for weeks. She didn't think he was about to give her another guess however and thus remained silent as she watched him move to the chest on the table. Red eyes studied Collin's face, searching for any hint, any sign of what she suspected to be true but saw nothing other than playful mischievousness. It was all too clear that he was enjoying this a little too much...wasn't it enough that he had managed to make her speechless several times that night.
Apparently Collin didn't think so as he explained what was in the box and where they had come from. Wait...the future...could that mean...no...no, she'd badgered him enough about that. She didn't want to get her hopes up only to have them dashed if her suspicion was wrong. Even still, it wasn't hard to guess that she was just a little excited at the prospect of that happening, never mind the fact that Collin had just given her a puzzle to solve. She had half expected the boxes to look the same from the way Collin had explained it, that would make it more difficult certainly but also that much more predictable. Besides, with only three boxes 'completely randomized' was a rather far stretch. There were only a few combinations that they could be placed in after all but she was getting carried away. She wasn't supposed to guess the order of the boxes but simply choose which box presumably held the 'future' gift.
Collin's chuckle drew a smirk from Carly as she listened to him continue on about the rules of this last little game of sorts. Of course she knew better than to rush, it'd be too easy to pick the wrong box that way though it was more than likely Collin would have her open all three before continuing. With that in mind Carly didn't really think it mattered but all the same she wanted to open the future box first before the others...or maybe it should be the other way around. Eh, whatever the case she would have to decide which one to open...if Collin ever opened the damned chest... "You gonna stand there all night or let me choose hmm?"Carly jived before laughing softly,"You're enjoying this too much ya know"she continued before shaking her head and sticking her tongue out briefly.
Finally after asking if she wanted to look Collin opened the lid to reveal three rather different looking boxes. Red eyes grew once again as she looked at the boxes, taking in their appearance and whatever characteristics they had. Perhaps they looked so different from each other to give a hint of what point in time they might be from. Scanning the boxes, Carly brought her hand up, hovering over the plain white box. The box might have been simple but it was beautiful nonetheless and something told her that it was indeed the box from the future. That would be too easy though wouldn't it...perhaps it had been wrapped simply just to make her believe that. With this thought in mind, Carly scanned the other boxes before finally picking up the middle blue box. The bow was beautiful and the reflective surface was dazzling...perhaps she had guessed wrong after all but that hardly mattered. She still had the other boxes to open after all, the game would continue until she had opened all three, of that much Carly was all but certain.
Hesitating briefly, Carly carefully untied the ribbon attached to the box, not wanting to damage it in any way. This time though it was her turn to play the tease considering she was taking her own sweet time opening the box. It was her own little way of paying Collin back for all the secrecy which despite how much fun the evening had been thus far, Carly was admittedly still a little annoyed he'd managed to keep so much from her. Finally the ribbon fell away leaving only the blue wrapped box in Carly's hand before she looked up at Collin, a teasing smile on her features. "You really want me to open it~?"Carly teased, still not making an effort to open the box in her hand. She'd watch him squirm for a few moments before opening the box, even if she too was eager to see what was inside. After a few moments, Carly looked back down at the box in her hand and slowly, gently opened the lid of the box to see what was hidden inside.

As Carly selected a box, Collin couldn't help but smirk a little to himself. What he was smirking at was a question in itself, and only Collin truly knew at that moment what it was that had struck up his humor. Of the boxes to pick, she had started out with that one. Well, he could only hope she got as much amusement out of it as he had when choosing it as part of this set of sorts. Watching her carefully start to unwrap it, Collin was vaguely aware of the fact that Carly was trying to invoke some sort of emotion in him by moving at the rate she was going. However, there was no anxiety from waiting. He was a patient creature by nature. The question brought a soft chuckle to Collin. "Would you prefer I opened it?" he asked back just as teasingly. He made no movement or motion towards the box or away from it for that matter. Instead, his eyes were locked on Carly waiting for her to continue on as he figured she would regardless of what else was said.
Within the contents of the box was a red bathing suit -a replica of the one she had worn when they had first gone swimming those years ago- even before they had actually started dating, heh. In size, stature, and format it was all but exactly the same- save for possibly a bit of extra frills. Collin had been to nearly every store looking for one like it- considering he didn't want to just box up the exact old suit that was now weather torn and the like. That wouldn't be near as fun or so Collin Walker thought, anyways. "Anythin' look familiar?" he asked her wryly a soft chuckle escaping from him as he waited for her reaction whatever it may be.

Collin's return question was met with Carly's soft laugh and a shake of her head before she finally opened the box. Truth be told, she was simply too impatient to wait any longer to open the first present. Besides that, she still had the other two to open and from the looks of it Collin really didn't care how long she took to open them. Ah well, so much for that idea...it had been worth a shot at any rate. Carly could probably think of something later to get him back for all the secrecy at any rate.
After removing the lid from the box, Carly found herself looking at what appeared to be her favorite red swimsuit brought back from the dead. The original one she had first gotten years ago and by this time had gotten so stretched out and worn that it was ridiculously uncomfortable to get into. Really, the only reason she hadn't gotten rid of it yet was because Carly hated to go swimsuit shopping and she had yet to find another one that was comfortable. Red eyes grew at the sight of the red bathing suit before her as she pulled it out, trying her best not to flat out squeal with delight. It was almost exactly like her other one though how Collin had managed to find one that matched it, much less in her size was beyond her. "Where did you find this!?"Carly finally asked, unable to contain her excitement any longer before all but glomping Collin,"It's just like my other one that I wore the first time we swam together! I've been looking for something like it for ages but...ohmygoshIcan'tbelieveyoufounditthankyousomuch!"she continued before all but slurring her words together in her excitement.
It would be a few moments before Carly even began to calm down from her almost kid-like joyous excitement and place the swimsuit back in the box. It would be easier to carry that way at any rate, besides they still had the gondola and...how long had they been out here now... Ah well, so what if it was dark by this time, the flickering lanterns still remained lit and Collin was still beside her. Nothing was going to happen and...oh right, she still had two more boxes to open. Looking back at the chest, Carly carefully considered the two remaining boxes before picking up the red one. Carefully pulling the ribbons apart, Carly took her time with the second box as well, wanting to be sure she didn't accidentally mar the beautiful wrapping or the ribbon it had been graced with. This done, Carly slowly lifted the lid, eager to see what treasure it had been hiding inside.

The expression on Carly's face was enough to bring a soft 'heh' sound out of Collin. Whether she tried to contain it or not, Carly's excitement was evident, and it was enough for Collin to mentally note at least one was a mission complete. Before he could reply, Collin found himself hugged tightly. Heterochromatic eyes only blinked for a moment before Collin reached forwards and hugged Carly back. "You wouldn't imagine the midgets I had to go to war with to find one," he snorted bemusedly knowing it would probably curb Carly's excitement. But hell it was funny to him, so there. "But glad ya like it," he murmured back a bit more sincerely after that.
As she finally released him and put the swim suit back, Collin straightened again rolling his shoulders a bit to find that his muscles were just a little stiff. As Carly looked back towards the chest, Collin tilted his head a little. "Ya just going to stare or are you gonna pick one up?" he asked before she finally selected the red one. Red and blue eyes shimmered in unison for a moment at the sight of the box, and Collin straightened just a little bit more as he waited for it to be opened. Within the box was a light brown teddy bear wearing a red and white jacket and tie made out of some overly soft material. The bear's paws were drawn up together by a silver chain that appeared to just be looped around it, but dangling from the chain was a rather intricate looking charm. Was that... why yes it was a strawberry charm done up in sparkles as if to reveal some glazed look.
"I figured your collection didn't have enough," Collin mused fighting off the twinge of sarcasm that was trying to work its way into his speech. Carly had certainly collected her fair share of large stuffed animals in those years. However, the bear itself appeared to be a bit different from what one would have considered a store bought bear would look like. Indeed, it almost seemed... hand sewn. The stitches were off in a few small places, and the jacket and tie looked a little less professional or standard as one would have expected. "Though it hurt like hell to put together," Collin mused after a moment raising both of his palms up revealing no scars or blemishes but mentally arguing he'd made it. Indeed, Collin had sewn and made up the bear. It had taken hours of work- and weeks to get through considering he had to hide it from Carly in various less genius ways. However, he'd gotten it together in time, at least.
"And I think he stole some jewelry," Collin snorted making a brief directional motion towards the necklace.

As Collin returned her hug, Carly couldn't help but smile. His next statement however served to make her smile falter somewhat as she shot a half-angry glare at him. Collin knew all too well that she didn't appreciate jokes about her size...it wasn't her fault that the gene pool had decided she would remain short forever. Still, Carly couldn't very well stay mad at Collin, especially not tonight after he had done so much already. His next words brought Carly's smile back once again as she released him and put the swim suit back before staring at the other boxes.
After thinking it over again, Carly was almost certain that the simple white box was for the future. Perhaps it would be best to save that one for last after all... Collin's jive broke into Carly's thoughts as she smirked and finally selected the red box. When she had finished unwrapping the present and saw the bear inside, her eyes grew wide as she looked at it in silence. Slowly, Carly carefully lifted the bear out of the box and looked at it with nothing short of wonder written on her face. Even Collin's jive at her collection didn't seem to faze her as she held the bear close, being careful so as not to harm it.
A simple hug wouldn't have harmed most stuffed animals but then again this wasn't an ordinary bear...Carly could tell that the stitching had been done by hand well enough. In truth, she probably would have tried to make a stuffed animal herself if Carly had the patience for it. As it stood, this was the only other handmade stuffed animal that Carly owned, the other being the Buneary her mother had made for her when she was small. Collin's next words brought an amused smirk to Carly's features as she looked up at him to see him raise his hands as if to show her the imaginary wounds that had been dealt to him. "Aww you poor baby~," Carly teased even as she continued to hold the bear close.
It wasn't until Collin mentioned that the bear had stolen some jewelery that Carly looked down at the bear again. She had noticed that the bear seemed to be holding something in his paws but had mistaken it for a simple decoration. Upon closer examination however it appeared to be a necklace with a strawberry as the lone charm on it. A soft laugh escaped Carly as she gently pulled the necklace off of the bear and looked at it,"A strawberry..."Carly began before looking up at Collin, eyes sparkling with delight,"...my favorite..."she mused before looking back down at necklace in the palm of her hand. The sparkles seemed to dance in the light of the flickering lanterns, making it appear as if the seeds were trying to dance right off the strawberry charm they were attached to. Carly's smile grew as she looked at the necklace for a little longer before holding it out to Collin,"Would you put it on me?"she asked after a moment, smiling up at him all the while.

The soft laugh from Carly was enough to bring a gentle smirk to Collin's features. As her eyes sparkled, he couldn't help but form a more genuine smile thereafter. Carly always brought out the best of him in the end of it all. Her words brought a gentle nod from the blue haired elder vampire. "I know," he replied matter of fact-ly but gently. If it was one thing he had learned in those years they had been together, it was that she had a strange obsession with strawberries. Though he could never fathom exactly why she liked them so much, Collin wasn't going to knock t even if it was illogical now that all they could ingest was blood. "The stuffed animal and the fruit," he smirked after a moment. Yes, they were both of the past in one form or another- even if they intertwined in the present more than the bathing suit did. One could argue it was a transition box perhaps. Collin didn't care what anyone called it.
As she held it out to him, Collin blinked briefly before her words made him nod and take it. "Of course," he mused back taking it from her after a moment before opening the clasp stepping sideways and clipping it easily around her neck allowing the only charm for now to hang on her front. "Two from the past, now one for the future," Collin mused before gesturing to the last box. Whether he realized it or not, Collin found himself suddenly tense as an excitement jumped into his frozen veins. How ironic it was he could feel so alive when he was a member of the undead. That was life for you, though, Collin's life, anyways.
Maybe he had made the box a little too obvious, but then again whether he admitted it or not, Collin had hoped it would end up this way. He wanted Carly to open the boxes in a certain order but also wanted to give her the option as it was. It had turned out all fine in the end, though. Rather than allow Carly the option of picking up the box, Collin walked over to the box and pulled it from the larger one setting it down on the table there as if it were a larger show. "Care to open it?" Collin asked. Within the box was a smaller box wrapped up in fine red wrapping paper, and within that smaller box was yet another small box wrapped up in blue. Within this box was yet another box, a pure white box reminiscent of a ring box. Once all the boxes were opened in a flash of movement, Collin would take up that box and very quickly drop to one knee. "Carly Janette Evans... would you do me the honor of changing your last name to Walker?" Collin asked slowly opening the box thereafter. "In lesser terms, would you marry me?" Only after that did he open the box to reveal the diamond and ruby ring within.
The ring itself was small but pristine. A small but perfectly cut perfectly shined diamond sat between two smaller rubies to make up the main design of the thin silver ring. Collin had been known for his small but rather perfect gifts in the past- never going for size or amount but small and perfect. It was a direct reflection of his personality, yet the red and white mix reflected Carly's favorite color and the purity of a diamond.

Carly's smile only grew at Collin's soft reply to her statement. There really was no logical reason as to why she liked strawberries but they had been and always would be her favorite fruit. The way Carly saw it, there was no reason to give up something she enjoyed simply because vampires weren't 'supposed' to ingest food. True eating too much of it made her sick now but then that really didn't surprise Carly much; eating too much of a good thing was never good and in her case, strawberries were similar to candy. As for the stuffed animal, one look in Carly's closet would reveal how much she adored plushies of any shape and size. It was one of her biggest kept secrets and one that Collin had found out about during the time they had been together. He certainly teased her enough about her love of stuffies but at this point, Carly really didn't care what he thought about her collection.
Collin's next comment about the two gifts brought a smirk to Carly's features before she held the necklace out. Laughing softly at his initial reaction to her motions, Carly waited until Collin had taken the necklace from her before pulling her hair away from her neck to make it easier for him to put it on. The weight of the necklace as the charm settled into place felt a little odd at first...course that was simply because Carly didn't wear jewelry of any sort very often. That and she didn't actually own many accessories other than the few things Collin had given her over the years.
Looking down at the charm now hanging around her neck, Carly smiled and fiddled with the strawberry briefly before Collin's voice reached her ears. That was right, there was still another box...which meant she had guessed correctly after all. A smirk appeared on her features at this realization before she turned back to the table just as Collin placed the last box on the table. "Impatient are we?"Carly teased before carefully placing the bear back in its box as well. The 'future' box was now the only remaining present and though Carly was thrilled that she had guessed correctly, another part was a little nervous about what would be inside. Maybe it would be something like plane tickets or something they would be able to use in the future...who knew really... Some part of Carly thought that it might just that but no...she refused to get her hopes up only to have them dashed.
Carefully opening the box so as not to harm the wrapping paper and ribbon, Carly fully expected the present to be visible but instead found herself staring at yet another box, this one with red wrapping paper. Giving a half-laugh, she picked the other box out of the original white one and opened that one as well only to find yet another box hiding inside that one. The first one was funny but now this was just getting annoying..."What is this...Matryoshka boxes...?"Carly asked in a slightly irritated voice before opening the blue box as well.
No sooner had she done so however that it was immediately stolen by Collin. Now thoroughly annoyed, Carly was about to snap at Collin for teasing her so much when she saw that he had dropped to his knee... All thoughts of rebuking him vanished as her mind registered what was happening; Collin was on his knee, holding a white box and-... Collin's next words was enough to make her eyes grow wide as he said her full name...he never said her entire name unless she was in trouble but...she'd done nothing wrong this time... All other thoughts ground to a screeching halt as Collin continued, opening the box as he spoke. Carly could hardly believe what was happening, she had tried so hard to keep from allowing herself to think that he would propose...and now...
Stunned, Carly placed a hand over her mouth as she looked at the ring that Collin was holding out to her. This was really happening wasn't it...Collin had just asked her to marry her...so then why couldn't she say one simple word. Tears glistened in her eyes as Carly continued to stare at the ring, hardly believing that this was truly happening. A few moments would pass before Carly finally recovered enough of her senses to nod before dropping her hand and holding it out to Collin so that he could place the ring on it. As soon as he did so, Carly didn't give him the chance to stand up before hugging him tightly,"I thought you'd never ask..."came the whispered words even as a few tears trailed down her cheeks,"What took you so long..."she continued, holding him tighter still.
To some, it might have seemed that the tease would have ruined the moment when in fact it was Carly's own way of handling unexpected situations. For whatever reason, making light of such things or joking about it, as bad as it was, helped her to regain at least some resemblance of control. This time however, even the slight jive at Collin hadn't helped much, if at all; Carly's mind was still reeling with the realization that she was engaged. Some part of her kept thinking she would wake up, that this was all a dream...vampires didn't sleep much however, and when Carly did sleep, her dreams were hardly this wonderful. This wasn't a dream then...Collin had asked her and in that moment, Carly didn't want to let him go.

Those careful heterochromatic eyes stared at Carly's as Collin waited patiently for her reaction- gauging it as he would. Her hands cupped her mouth, but he waited. She stared, and he waited. As she finally reached forwards, Collin slid the ring from the box, rolled it around in his fingers once, and then slid it up Carly's ring finger with one fluid motion. It fit perfectly- as he'd had the ring sized custom made. Considering vampires didn't change, Carly didn't even have to worry about her knuckles swelling causing a change. No, it would stay that way, and Collin knew that.
He was about to shift weight in order to stand up, but before he could do so, Collin suddenly found himself pushed back briefly and hugged tightly. One of his smiles- a pure one far from the smirk he gave most of the life forms around him- graced Collin's face as he simply set his head on her shoulder. The words that escaped from the air drew a soft chuckle from Collin. "You're the one who still thinks in human terms," was all the elder vampire jived back. It had been his excuse for everything time-related when it came down to it. Collin moved at a pace slower than that of the rest of the world not because he was mentally slower but because he had time to kill. A decade was easily a year to him all things considered. However, he knew well enough that was not how Carly viewed time.
"Sorry to make you wait," he mused after a moment before pulling back from he hug only to kiss her lips gently thereafter. A second later he'd already broken the kiss and just smirked at her. "So I'm hoping that was a yes right?' he asked tilting his head to one side and smirking a bit more at her.

The feeling of Collin's head on her shoulder brought a smile to Carly's features. The laugh that her words brought Collin only made her smile that much more. This was perfect; he was perfect...what more could she possibly ask for... As Collin spoke, Carly laughed in turn but said nothing in response to the jive, at least for the moment. Collin knew all too well that she still thought in human terms where time was concerned. After all, Carly had only been a vampire for about seven years now, it wasn't so easy to forget a system that had been so ingrained in her for years after all.
When Collin pulled away after apologizing, Carly simply smiled and was about to say that it was worth the wait when she found herself cut off by the kiss. The kiss was broken all too quickly for Carly before she saw that all too familiar smirk on Collin's features. At the question that followed, Carly laughed and shook her head, unable to believe what she was hearing. "No of course not,"Carly replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm,"It was a creative maybe," she continued before shaking her head again. Kissing him again, Carly leaned against Collin a bit before pulling away and smiling,"Of course it was a yes!" Laughing now, Carly hugged Collin once again, unable to contain her excitement now,"Yes! Yes, a billion times yes!"she continued before drawing Collin into yet another kiss.

The 'no' was nearly misinterpretation, and for a brief moment, Collin blinked. However, as he noted the sarcasm in her voice thereafter, he smirked yet again. The shake of her head followed by another kiss was enough confirmation that it was just a joke, and Collin laid that brief worry to rest rather quickly thereafter. As she leaned against him briefly, he was about to move his hand up to her back when she pulled away again and spoke once more. A smile played onto his features and only heightened at yet another kiss. He held this one for longer- deepening it a bit more before breaking away again. "Good," he half laughed. "Was gonna be upset if all this went to waste," he mused before looking into her eyes more genuinely.
"Even if we got off to a rocky start... Carly, I love you and have loved you for years now. I'm gonna do everything I can to make you happy, Mrs. Walker," he played with his words carefully but heightened a little at the last word. It wasn't as if he had just seen her walk down the aisle yet. However, Collin couldn't help saying those two short words ever still. There was a ring to it he had yet to fully grasp and at one time had never fathomed could be possible. However, there she was now before him having accepted to be married. There was scarcely more Collin could do but smile right then and there.
"Oh, and Lyall already said it was fine, by the way," Collin chuckled after a moment as the thought came to him. Considering Carly didn't have her father or even her adoptive father now, he had gone with her older brother- the man he had clashed so heavily with at least at first. Though at first he had been a bit worried about asking for such a thing- not even sure if he was stepping out of bounds by doing so, Collin was surprised to find that Lyall was more than happy to "let Carly be married". In fact, he had pretty much asked the same thing Carly had "what took you so long?" Collin had nearly face/palmed, but he understood the question's context well enough. Silly humans...

As Collin deepened the kiss Carly returned it rather easily, enjoying every minute she was in his arms. Part of her still couldn't believe that this was happening...that she was really going to be his wife... Not for the first time, Carly found herself thinking the ridiculous thought about this being a dream. Ugh...even after all the years she'd been a vampire it was still all too easy to slip into the 'human' way of thinking. Carly knew well enough that she wasn't dreaming, in fact she hadn't been physically tired in quite some time and thus wouldn't have been able to dream.
When Collin broke the kiss and pulled away, Carly smirked and laughed softly, leaning against him after he finished speaking. His next words succeeded in eliciting a short, happy squeak from Carly as he called her by her soon-to-be last name. How odd that something so simple as a name change could be so exciting... In the eyes of the law that was exactly what it was; taking the name of the person you pledged to share your life with. It wasn't something so simple as that however, but then nothing in life -or undeath- that was worth anything ever came easy. "Say that again,"Carly asked/demanded before smirking a little more,"As for making me happy~...mmm I'd say you're off to a good start,"she teased before kissing him briefly once more.
The comment about Lyall giving his permission caught Carly off guard for a moment. In truth, she hadn't expected Collin to ask permission from well...anyone considering that was a bit old-fashioned and-...right...this was Collin she was talking about. Still, asking Lyall was a little odd but...it wasn't like she still had a father... The thought that neither of her dads would be able to share this moment with her made Carly's smile falter slightly. It really shouldn't matter now... especially considering they had both been gone for years... Still, the truth still stung a little...but at least Lyall had said it was fine. That was something at least, especially considering that he had hated Collin at first. The fact that he had agreed to give her away so to speak was definitely something to be happy about.
"Well that's good~,"Carly replied after a moment,"Though I am surprised you actually asked Ly,"she continued, teasing him only slightly. She knew that the two of them weren't exactly on the best of terms to say the least and the fact Collin'd talked to Lyall about this was a feat in and of itself. Knowing that she had her brother's support in this was more of a relief than Carly cared to admit. Ever since he had found her that day, Carly had been close to Lyall and could talk to him about anything. In fact, he was the first one she had told about becoming a vampire, not that he'd believed her initially but that was his own fault. None of that mattered now though, it was the past and right now Carly was more focused on the present and what the future would bring. She was going to be Collin's wife after all and right then, Carly didn't think anything could steal her joy away. If only this moment could last forever...she would be more than content to stay here in Collin's arms like this, knowing that he would keep her safe and protected from anything that would come their way.

The order to say her name again caused Collin to smirk a little playfully."Mrs. Carly Walker," Collin mused softly back to her again. Just speaking those words was enough to make him smile a bit more. "Mrs. Collin Walker," he whispered. Again that old style part of him seeped through- a reflection on a time when a woman could take all of a man's name. It was still around in that day and age but was far from prominent especially with the liberalism that women had taken in the last hundred years, heh. Collin was all but frozen in time, though, and some of the even most demanding changes including most of the technology advance were pushed away by Collin with ease. The kiss thereafter drew a brief hum from Collin before he broke the kiss and spoke more of his time after that. Her response brought a half laugh out of Collin before he shook his head dispersing her words and a few hairs in the process. "What can I say?" he asked raising his eyebrow thereafter. There was a lot he could say, but he didn't want to go there for now. He didn't speak it and instead drew her into a tighter hug- almost as content as Carly was just to stay there for a bit.
For a few minutes, Collin didn't move. However, as the wind suddenly picked up from the east- quickly blowing out almost all of the lanterns, Collin was aware that Carly would probably fall into distress if left to herself. Releasing her after a moment- though keeping one set of fingers laced in hers, he turned towards what appeared to be simply forest area, Collin half laughed before looking towards Carly. "Sadly I'm out of tricks," he mused before shaking his head and bringing up a hand to brush a few of his hairs away. "Though if we walk that way, we'll come to a road that leads up towards the city again," he explained. "Shall we go Mrs. Walker?" he asked.

Hearing Collin repeat her name elicited yet another giggle from Carly as she snuggled close to him. So what if she wasn't married yet...she could certainly get used to hearing that name, especially the way Collin said it. The second version of her name however made Carly beam all the more despite how old fashioned it might have been. Frozen in time as they were what might have been normal a few years ago would be considered ancient soon enough anyway. Besides, old fashioned or not, she would be 'Mrs. Collin Walker' soon enough and nothing could make her happier. Not only that but hearing her fiance say the name made Carly just a little impatient for the eventual wedding. There would be much to do before that event happened but in the meantime she was more than content to remain in his arms.
Collin's retort to her jive of sorts made Carly raise her own eyebrow in question. His reply struck her as rather odd to say the least but for now she would leave things as they were. This was their moment after all and Carly wasn't about to do or say anything that could possibly ruin it. The weather however seemed to have other plans as the wind picked up and suddenly snuffed out most of the lanterns in the clearing. The suddeness of the breeze followed by the nigh complete darkness made Carly tense slightly before relaxing against Collin once more. It was alright...they weren't in the city after all and it was doubtful at best that anyone had followed them here of all places. Even with these thoughts in mind, Carly couldn't help the paranoia that had crept into her mind just then as she scanned their surroundings for anything out of the ordinary lest she be caught off guard.
After a short time, Carly felt Collin pull away and did the same, albeit reluctantly. Still, the feeling of his fingers interlacing with her own was reassuring and enough to set her mind at ease...at least for the time being. Collin was with her and he certainly wouldn't let anything happen to her, especially not after claiming her as his bride-to-be. His next words elicited in a soft laugh from Carly as she shook her head slightly. As far as she was concerned Collin didn't need anymore 'tricks', not after how much effort he had put in making this night perfect. Just because the weather hadn't cooperated didn't mean the night was ruined after all. Hearing his explanation about the road and the following question, Carly couldn't help but smile up at him once again.
"As long as I'm with you I don't much care where we go~,"Carly mused before kissing him briefly, "Shouldn't we return the gondola though? It might be easier to carry the chest back that way,"she continued after a moment, before smirking as another thought came to mind. "Or~ I could try on the first present I opened if you'd like~"Carly mused, only slightly teasing him in that moment. Besides, how long had it been since they'd gone swimming...she honestly couldn't remember. With how busy her work had made her and the fact that Collin had been busy with the store and probably planning this night, they hadn't been able to spend much time together at all really. Well...that and Carly had honestly been avoiding swimming because her old suit was almost completely worn out and she honestly hated having to shop for a new one. As much as she loved shopping, it was frankly irritating to find a bathing suit that both fit her and didn't make her look like a grade-schooler.
How Collin had managed to find one that almost exactly matched her old swimsuit was beyond her but Carly wasn't going to complain. Maybe she was just a little too excited about the new suit and a tiny bit impatient about trying it on. Either way, Carly had been serious about the suggestion and besides, the moon was almost full and that alone would provide plenty of light. That and Collin wouldn't let anything happen to her, there was little to fear from the night when he was with her after all. No, it was when she was alone in the darkness that paranoia would strike again and allow fear to lodge its icy tendrils into her heart. It was ridiculous really, how a vampire could be afraid of the dark...still, despite being a 'creature of the night' as most books portrayed them, Carly did her best to avoid nightfall. None of that mattered now though, not with Collin with her, and certainly not after she had promised herself to him. There was nothing, not even the fall of night that could bring Carly down in that moment.
