:: Celestine Sofia Mattias :: Basics! :: NICKNAMES: Sofia, Celeste :: AGE: 25 :: BIRTHDAY: April 8, 1988 :: GENDER: Female :: SEXUALITY: Heterosexual-Married :: FACE CLAIM: Carrie Underwood :: MEMBER GROUP: Human :: JOB: Artist :: LANGUAGES SPOKEN: English, Italian, French and some Spanish Personality! :: LIKES:
- Art- Since she was young, Celestine has always enjoyed drawing and painting. She loves being able to express herself through her artwork and describes her own pieces as a part of her. The way Celestine describes it, every piece of art that has been made is like a diary page brought to life. Every painting has a story behind it, something that inspired the artist and the feelings that inspired them are hidden in the brush strokes just waiting to be discovered if one knows where to look.
- Family- Celestine honestly can’t image what her life would be like without Alice and Mikey. She values her family above all and will drop anything in the blink of an eye if they need her no matter what.
- Flowers- Celestine has always loved looking at various flowers and keeps several flower arrangements in her own that she puts together herself in their home. Her favorite flower happens to be the lily but there are quite a few other flowers Celestine likes as well and will name off several different kinds if asked.
- Animals- Celestine adores animals in general and would have been a veterinarian if her love for art didn’t surpass it. Dogs in particular are one of her favorite animals followed by cats and horses in close second. One of Celestine’s favorite pastimes is to ride horses sometimes for miles on a hike or taking her dog, Duke, for a walk.
- Music- There are many different kinds of music that Celestine likes but she tends to favor more classical music. She can play the violin and piano decently enough but still prefers art over playing instruments in general. Celestine likes to sing as well and will often hum to songs she’s familiar with. Although Celestine has a good voice she’s extremely self-conscious about it and won’t sing in front of other people without good reason or unless persuaded to do so.
:: DISLIKES:
- Wasps and Bees- Celestine is absolutely terrified of both wasps and bees and for good reason considering she’s highly allergic to them. If she so much as sees one little bumblebee she will panic and get as far away from it as possible. Generally she stays away from areas where there might be bees or wasps but there are places where the insects are simply unavoidable such as the gardens. When she has to go somewhere where bees and wasps are known to frequent she can be a little paranoid and jumpy but as long as she has her medicine with her she’s usually fine.
- Storms- Rain isn’t so bad really, unless it’s accompanied by thunder and lightning. Celestine is quite terrified of thunder especially and completely freezes up much like a scared rabbit or a deer in the headlights. Sure she may appear calm on the surface but underneath this apparent calm Celestine will be trying desperately not to scream and crawl under the nearest table like a scared little girl.
- Bullies- Only the weak prey on those who cannot stand up or defend themselves. There is no excuse for being unnecessarily cruel to others no matter what the circumstances. In Celestine’s eyes, it is better to look for ways to be kind to others rather than take the easy way out and do the opposite. It takes work to find ways to brighten someone else’s day but cruel words are all too easy to find.
- Liars and Hypocrites- Celestine despises those who don’t tell the truth. Whether it’s a ‘minor’ white lie or simply not telling the whole truth doesn’t matter. A lie is a lie, no matter how it’s put. Even worse are the people who say one thing and do the complete opposite. Two-faced people are the lowest of the low and cannot be trusted no matter what, or at least in Celestine’s eyes. Hypocrites however are often worse because they expect everyone else to do what they say when they themselves don’t follow their own instructions. These two-faced fools don’t deserve a leadership position and witnessing such behavior is one of the easiest ways to get Celestine angry.
- Disrespect- Celestine has worked hard to get where she is today and will not suffer those who choose to disrespect her. She is not just another face in the crowd and will not be treated as just another pretty face. Celestine is prone to talking back to those who make this mistake with a passive aggressive threat or smart aleck comment.
:: HABITS:
- Humming while working- When she’s sure nobody’s watching her, Celestine often sings or hums while she’s working on her latest painting or doing a few things around the house. It helps the work go by faster and not seem as much like work somehow.
- Twirling her hair- An anxious habit that she picked up when she was young, Celestine still hasn’t broken the habit. When she’s unsure about a situation she’ll play with a few strands of her hair until she realizes what she’s doing and tries to stop.
- Biting her nails- Though Celestine has tried often to break this habit, it rears its ugly head whenever she’s stressed. This usually happens when she’s approaching a deadline or something has happened to a loved one.
- Biting her lip- When she’s thinking about something difficult or is confused about the situation, Celestine has a tendency to bite her lower lip. She’s not aware she’s doing this most of the time but when she does catch herself doing so, Celestine will stop and try to change the topic. Call it an odd tick if you will but it’s something that Celestine has done since she was little and is an easy way to tell if she doesn’t understand something right away.
- Rambling- Whenever Celestine is excited she tends to talk about anything and everything that comes to mind. Whether it pertains to the situation or not doesn’t matter, Celestine just can’t seem to be quiet when she’s ecstatic about something.
:: STRENGTHS:
- Compassionate- Celestine is a bit of a bleeding heart and loves to help out when she can. She can’t simply walk by someone who is obviously in need of help and do nothing and does whatever she can to help if it is within her power. Celestine is the kind of person who would go up to someone sitting by themselves at lunch simply because they looked lonely. In her eyes, if something she said or did brightened someone’s day, then it was worth it in the end.
- Optimistic- Always looking on the bright side of things, Celestine has a knack for finding that elusive silver lining no matter what the circumstances. She doesn’t allow supposed failure get in the way when there’s always a chance to try again. Tomorrow brings a brighter day and new challenges that are begging to be defeated after all. Celestine isn’t one to dwell on the past and the ‘what ifs’ in life and believes that if that door has closed, well, there just has to be another one open somewhere. All you have to do is find it.
- Mediator- Celestine is a gentle soul and has an uncanny knack of knowing the right words to say in a given situation. Though she doesn’t label herself as a diplomat, she has a way of addressing the concerns of others without adding heat to an otherwise intense fire. She has a natural graceful, calm air about her that seems to demand the attention of those around her. Celestine frowns on senseless violence and fist fights when negotiating would resolve the situation more effectively than threats would.
- Patient- Celestine has the patience of a saint and very rarely loses her temper. Considering how long it takes her to do some of her paintings, Celestine very rarely sees the need to rush. In her experience rushing with anything leads to the possibility of making a mistake and thus takes all the time she needs to complete a task. It is this mindset that helps her complete art commissions on time along with keep up with Alice.
- Confident- Celestine is very confident in her abilities and almost comes off as cocky with her can-do attitude. Her eagerness to tackle any task that is given to her comes from a genuine belief that she can complete it rather than a want to please. She knows what she is able to do and how to use those abilities to make the best of whatever situation she is given. Celestine is rather calm under pressure and doesn’t panic like some might be prone to do. Even if she finds herself in the deep end so to speak, she is quick to take in her surroundings and make the best of it, perceiving her circumstances as simply yet another challenge to overcome.
:: WEAKNESSES:
- Stubborn- When Celestine sets her mind on something it is exceedingly difficult to change her mind. She is rather set in her ways and doesn’t particularly like anyone trying to tell her what she should or shouldn’t do. Celestine is no fool however and knows when to concede should a good argument be put forth but she really doesn’t like change and will fight anyone who tries to make her do so.
- Critic- Celestine tends to look at things with an artist’s eye, paying attention to the small details of a situation rather than as a whole. She can come off as condescending sometimes especially when giving a review of an art or some sort of design. If someone asks her opinion on something they should expect at least some form of criticism, constructive or otherwise, because nothing is perfect. There is always room for improvement after all, or so Celestine believes.
- Blunt- Celestine isn’t shy about stating her opinion and most of the time does so with very little tact. It is very easy to understand exactly what she means because she doesn’t use veiled speech and actually gets rather annoyed with cryptic responses. She doesn’t rude by any means but Celestine doesn’t beat around the bush when speaking to others and gets straight to the point.
- Emotional- Though not overly sensitive, Celestine does have a tendency to get overly emotional depending on the circumstances. She doesn’t try to hide her emotions and often goes back and forth between extremes especially if there is something troubling her. Celestine is someone who can cry easily at songs, movies, and the like. If something happens that’s upsetting or that she’s ecstatic about, everyone is going to know about it.
- Overprotective- A worrier by nature, Celestine tends to be a bit protective when it comes to her daughter and in some aspects, Mikey as well. She knows how dangerous his job can be at times and wants to make sure that no harm comes to either of them. Celestine doesn’t like to be away from her Alice or Mikey for very long for this very reason and has a rather hard time letting go. She hates feeling powerless in certain situations and thus clings rather heavily to her family in order to feel like she has at least some resemblance of control.
:: OVERALL PERSONALITY: Celestine is exactly what she appears to be. She doesn’t see the need to put on a façade to please others and simply shrugs off insults to her person as if they’re nothing. If they don’t like who she is, that’s their problem, not hers. Though Celestine does in fact worry about what others think of her she won’t change who she is for anyone. She isn’t made of stone after all and insults that refer to her background or her family do hurt her deeply but Celestine refuses to reveal the effect such words have on her. In fact, insults only serve to make her all the more determined to prove that everyone is wrong about her and where she comes from. There is more to being successful than just money after all and Celestine is determined to show that hard work does in fact pay off in the end. Though she may not look like it, Celestine is a very diligent worker and has in fact have had to put extra effort into what she does because she doesn’t have family money. Nevertheless, she doesn’t give up easily and is rather competitive. If someone tells her she can’t do something, Celestine will only work that much harder just to prove them wrong.
Celestine loves to have a good time and is very bright and cheerful most of the time; she can be a tease sometimes but it’s all in good fun. More outgoing than most, Celestine likes to attend events at art museums and the like but though she may seem like an extrovert, she really does value her own privacy. Celestine likes attending parties and the like but huge crowds are a source of anxiety for her considering she gets claustrophobic and can’t stay for long without risking a panic attack. She is rather laid back and doesn’t like to rush on anything and thus knows how to manage her time well to avoid having to do so. Celestine likes to have fun and won’t say no to a good time and will often suggest random ‘fun’ things from jumping on a trampoline to rock climbing.
Quite the adventurer, Celestine loves to do things that challenge herself artistically, intellectually, and physically. She is quite athletic and finds that exercising helps her clear her head especially if she can have a fun time while doing so. Often, Celestine will go for a run early in the morning or if she just needs some time alone to think. Rain or shine doesn’t matter, as long as it’s not storming outside, Celestine makes time to go for a run at least once a day. If that isn’t possible something else such as horse riding or even rock climbing will work just as well. Though she doesn’t appear dangerous, don’t let this fool you; Celestine is adept at Judo and won’t hesitate to defend herself should push come to shove. Just because she frowns on violence first and would much rather talk things out doesn’t mean she can’t protect herself.
Once Celestine says she will do something, it’s a sure thing that it will get done sooner or later. Celestine never breaks her promises and often goes above and beyond expectations placed on her if given half a chance. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and family and would never betray them in any way, shape or form. If someone has entrusted her with a secret or something that has been told in confidence, Celestine will not breathe a word of the subject to anyone unless and until given express permission by the person that told her in the first place. This is especially true if it concerns her family and though she does not get angry easily, threatening her friends or family is a sure fire way to do so. When angry, Celestine is very much like a mother bear and hits first, asks questions never though thankfully it takes a while to get her to the point where she retaliates with violence. Generally speaking, when Celestine is getting angry she will lash out with veiled threats in a more passive aggressive manner. Woe to those whom should have the misfortune to harm her family in anyway as Celestine will make your life a living hell for possibly months after the incident. Though Celestine is generally rather forgiving, whenever it concerns her family she can hold a grudge for an indefinite amount of time. History! :: MOTHER: Ericka Blake :: FATHER: Jacob Blake :: SIBLINGS: None :: SPOUSE: Michelangelo Mattias :: CHILDREN: Alice Mattias :: PETS: Duke a year-old Mastiff
:: HISTORY: Celestine was born the only child of Ericka and Jacob Blake whom, though well off financially, had little extra that they could use to spoil their only daughter. Not only that but both parents worked full time jobs, leaving little time to spend with their child and thus Celestine was raised mostly by various nannies hired throughout the years. Even as a young child, Celestine had a strong sense of independence largely because she was left alone a lot of the time. During such times, she amused herself by drawing or painting on anything she could get her hands on if paper was not provided. This caused her to get in trouble frequently with the nannies in charge of taking care of her and would result in punishment that would eventually lead to chronic claustrophobia as young Celestine would be locked in a cupboard for sometimes hours at a time.
Unfortunately with both parents gone for all hours of the day, this abuse would continue for quite some time until Ericka happened to come home early and found the maids cleaning up yet another painting from the walls. When asked where her daughter was, the maids simply gestured to a small cupboard much too small for the child that had been locked from the outside. Alarmed, Ericka immediately opened the doors and comforted the distraught Celestine who simply clung to her mother, not willing to take the chance she’d leave again. The nanny was promptly fired and from then on Ericka opted to quit her job and remain home with her daughter.
From then on things got better, Celestine’s parents made an effort to spend more time with their daughter despite their busy schedule and various parties that they had to attend due to Jacob’s work. Celestine didn’t mind going to the parties, in fact, she quite enjoyed them and being able to dress up like a princess. As she grew older, Celestine’s natural gift at art was noticed and at first she was encouraged to do what she wanted as long as she knew that she had to work hard to reach that goal. Celestine was quick to agree and worked that much harder on developing her gift and was often praised by the teachers at her school. Her art teacher took notice and recommended that Celestine be placed in a more advanced school for children her age. Wanting the best for his daughter, Jacob agreed under the condition that she would focus on more than just art. This hurt Celestine more than she was willing to admit considering she loved art and the ability it gave her to express herself using paint or pencil as a medium rather than simple words. Whereas words could be misunderstood and could cause injury, pictures told a far better story and left room for interpretation still. Celestine refused, stubbornly stating that she would be able to fulfill her dream with or without his help.
It would be a few years after this that Celestine would receive a scholarship to the same school her teacher had recommended. Celestine was ecstatic at the news; finally, all her hard work had finally paid off. Maybe now she could finally learn more about how to improve her art. All her friends said that she was amazing but Celestine had a hard time believing them. There was still so much she could learn, and now she would have the chance to do so. Though her friends were sad to see her go, they were happy for her and promised to keep in touch. It was here that Celestine would meet Michelangelo for the first time. The boy kept to himself a lot of the time which was curious to Celestine and though she was having a hard time keeping up with the course load and the various projects she had to complete, made an effort to spend time with him. She thought it was a little sad that he seemed to be by himself a lot of the time and eventually they would become friends through their shared art interest. Celestine loved being able to talk to someone else about art that understood what she was talking about and was quick to show some of the pieces she had completed. They didn’t get as much time to talk as Celestine would have liked but she was glad to have found a friend in Michelangelo.
To her great delight, Celestine was accepted into the Advanced Art Society along with Michelangelo where she would learn even more about how to improve. She loved being able to talk to others that knew what to look for in art and was able to ask as many questions as she could think of. Mikey began to spend more time with Colton and talk about strategy games which though Celestine thought was interesting at first and even tried a few didn’t really enjoy them as much as Mikey seemed to. It was through the society that Celestine would meet Danielle, who showed her a few pointers on how to improve her shading before asking her if she wanted to go to some martial arts class that her parents were forcing her attend for one reason or another. Much to her surprise, Celestine agreed and found that she enjoyed the class and went on to continue to learn Judo, as she learned it was called. Throughout high school Celestine continued to take these courses, even going on to win a few championships while still continuing her coursework. She still loved talking to Mikey and even started a friendly competition of sorts between the two of them. Celestine enjoyed seeing his art and would scold him for calling any of his pieces a sketch when it was better than the simplicity of a sketch. There was depth behind each piece after all, art had a language all of its own if you knew how to listen and learn from it. She would go on to win various prizes for her artwork which delighted Celestine to know that others enjoyed her art just as much as she did.
Shortly after graduating high school Celestine received an invitation to study abroad in Venice of all places and immediately told Mikey the good news. He was just excited as she was about the news and even said that he had family in Italy much to her surprise. That was great though, that meant that he could visit her in Italy whenever he wanted! Celestine then asked what Mikey would be doing and was shocked to hear that he would be going to law school. At first she was confused and a little dismayed as to why Mikey would give up art when he was so talented at it. Thankfully, he reassured her that he wouldn’t be giving it up at all but was still going to pursue the degree. Though this still confused Celestine, she left it at that and made Mikey promise that he keep in touch with her even if he couldn’t come to Venice with her. The news was not as well received by her parents when Celestine informed them that she would be studying in Italy. Jacob had wanted his daughter to follow in his footsteps and perhaps eventually lead the company that he was now the head of and the two fought over the acceptance before Celestine declared that she didn’t need, or want his help. Ericka was unwilling to step in and mediate between father and daughter but did tell Celestine to do her best and follow her dream. Thankful that her mother supported her, Celestine promised and told her that she would keep in touch.
Without her father’s help however, Celestine was at a loss as to how she would come up with the money to get to Italy. She was supposed to start in the fall which only left the summer break to find the money she needed to fly to Venice, find an apartment and a job, and start her studies. Her current job didn’t pay that much at all and there was no possible way that she would be able to get the sum needed by then. This dilemma was a source of great worry for Celestine to say the least and though she tried not to let on how concerned she was, Mikey eventually called her out on it. Reluctant at first to explain her financial situation, Celestine relented and told why she was so worried about being able to get to Italy. Later on, Mikey would surprise her by showing her his family’s private jet and explaining that they could take it to Italy. Celestine was stunned at this announcement and thanked Mikey repeatedly for doing her such a huge favor. They started dating shortly after this and started to make plans as to what they would do in Italy. The two of them would leave for Italy a few days later wherein they would find an apartment and were able to see many of the attractions in Venice before Mikey had to return to attend Oxford.
Though both Mikey and Celestine were busy attending their perspective colleges, they still kept in touch whenever possible. Celestine was often busy with the many projects she was demanded to complete and almost constantly had deadlines breathing down her neck. Even under almost constant stress, she never gave up on her dream and with Mikey’s support and encouragement she managed to get the projects done on time. Several of the instructors even praised her on her work and gave her the names of a few studios she could look into should she be interested. After following the leads she was given, Celestine was commissioned to do a few pieces for various places to help pay for college and various other expenses. True, she could have asked Mikey or her parents for help if she truly needed it but Mikey spoiled her enough as it was and Celestine’s father had made it very clear that he did not approve of her chasing after something that wasn’t a dependable source of income. Celestine wanted to prove her father wrong, to show him that she could chase her dream and be independent and successful.
As time went on, Celestine continued working towards getting her master’s degree in art while trying to get her own studio at the same time. The money she made from art commissions largely went to paying for college and other necessities but she was able to put aside at least a little to go towards opening a studio. Mikey came to Italy whenever he could which always brightened Celestine’s day and they would visit his grandparents a few times while he was there. At first Celestine was a little nervous about meeting them but even that fell away as she realized just how fun they were. By this time Mikey and Celestine were seeing each other more seriously and started to talk about what the future would hold after they finished their perspective degrees. Celestine explained her dream about possibly opening her own studio and with Mikey’s help was able to do just that.
Mikey finished law school soon enough and even passed the bar exam with relative ease before moving to Italy with Celestine and attending the same college she was much to her delight. Not only were they able to see each other more often now but Celestine could help him through the course work with relative ease because she had already taken a lot of the courses Mikey was now taking. The two grew closer during this time and eventually married later that year, after Celestine had finished her degree, something that shocked both of their parents it seemed. Celestine had long since stopped caring what her father had thought of her choices but at least her mother was genuinely happy for her. Eventually Jacob relented and accepted Mikey as his son-in-law especially after seeing how happy he made Celestine. Celestine was a little daunted by Mitchel especially but as long as she was with Mikey he didn’t seem near as intimidating. The rest of Mikey’s family were just as surprised as Celestine’s own parents had been at first but they gradually accepted her and soon she felt as if she belonged, not that it mattered much anyway as long as she was by Mikey’s side.
Time passed and Celestine would fall into a pattern of sorts where it seemed that everything just fell into place. With Mikey by her side now, Celestine honestly couldn’t be happier especially when her studio was doing so well and she was still getting a steady stream of commissions from various people. Life fell into a pattern of sorts and Celestine quickly fell into a pattern of sorts as she helped Mikey where she could with various designs while working on various art commissions. After a time, Celestine found out that she was pregnant and eventually gave birth to a girl whom they named Alice. Though she had not been expecting to be a mother quite yet, Celestine loved Alice dearly and spent all the time she could with her daughter. As Alice grew older, Celestine couldn’t help but adore her little girl. It was as if she was living a fairy tale life and Celestine honestly didn’t think she could possibly be any happier.
