Solomon Lance found herself stepping into an old but seeming new world as she moved out of the motel room and out into the Italian air. She had been so tired the day before as she'd made her way from the airport to the motel that she hadn't really taken anything in and she couldn't help but smile as she looked around now. Her first look at the Italy in a long time. She hadn't been to Italy since the Hunter's base had been moved from there to Saipan and in a way she missed the country, even if their new base was much better positioned. There was a unique air to the place, it was romantic, it was old, it was a nice place in general to be. There was also quite a high number of supernaturals living in the country as well, that was probably the main reason she loved it so much. It was a great hunting ground.
That was the main reason for her trip but not the first day of it. She wanted to get a day of relaxing and being a bit of a tourist, she wanted to get a day of being Sally rather than Solly. If she put on a dress and wore her hair out long she was sure no one would recognise her, it was what she did every year for the Hunter's Christmas party and she never had been caught before. So that's what she'd done. She was wearing a peach coloured maxi dress with short sleeves and a thick off white cardigan over it, white flats for shoes and a white handbag. Fake designer sunglasses covered her eyes as she started down the street that would lead her closer to the more tourist filled area of the city. She was planning on just walking around and getting a pedestrians view of Venice, maybe talk to people and see where they thought she should go and see. She didn't have much of a plan, all of her plans were for the days after when the holiday would turn into a hunting trip.
Turning into another street she found herself in what seemed like an alleyway, it was a narrow street with townhouses on either side that were painted in bright colours. The actual street was hardly wide enough for one car to drive through and it was paved completely with tiled stone. It was deserted and she moved faster, hearing the soft sound of her flats hitting the stone speed up. She wasn't scared of something attacking her, she was scared of something attacking her when she didn't have any weapons to protect herself. The street seemed like the perfect place where she could be cornered by multiple people and all she had with her was a knife small enough to fit into her handbag. It wouldn't work well if she was surrounded by more than one person. She really did rely on weapons.
She paused, turning so her back was to the brightly painted orange bricks of one of the townhouses. Near the end of the alley, where she had been walking towards were the silhouettes of at least three men standing with the sun shining behind them. Solly slowly slipped her hand into her handbag, curling her fingers around the handle of the small but sharp knife that was the only weapon she had with her. Maybe the three--they looked like men from what she could see--wouldn't bother her when she walked past them but she couldn't be sure about that. Straightening her posture to one she kept while stalking her prey when she hunted, her feet began to move again. The closer she got to the men, the less she thought this would turn out well.

It was a beautiful spring morning and Carly was looking forward to getting some much needed shopping done. She had wanted to wait until Collin was available considering the purchases she had in mind included both of them but he had been caught up in some unexpected business at the last minute. Still, Carly hadn't wanted to waste the day away back at the loft and thus was glad that Collin had told her she could go ahead and go. Besides, there were a few things that she would be able to look for without needing his opinion, one of them being her wedding dress. Thus Carly had found herself walking the streets of Venice to a well known bridal shop she had looked into prior to leaving home. It had been Collin's only condition to her leaving without him just in case he would be able to leave work after all. That, and taking her cell phone with her would make it rather easy to find her if that should be the case but considering how busy the store had been prior to her departure it was highly unlikely her fiance would find an opportunity to step out.
No matter, just because Collin wasn't with her in that moment didn't mean that the day would turn out horribly. Dressed in comfortable jeans, a red lacy blouse and matching jeans jacket, Carly was glad that she didn't have to 'dress to impress' like at work. Honestly, she was tired of wearing a uniform that made her look like she thought she was better than everyone- never mind that it was true- when she was able to dress casually, she took the chance whenever possible. That and while she was waiting for Collin to finish, Carly had taken the opportunity to paint her nails her favorite ruby red color. Not only did it match her eyes, but it also matched the rubies set alongside the diamond in her engagement ring. It was a winning combination in Carly's eyes and gave her the excuse to wear her new sandals that she had gotten on impulse one of the times she'd been shopping.
She had just turned on the street where the bridal shop was supposedly located when she caught sight of what appeared to be three men staring down a young woman. With her keen senses now on high alert, Carly could tell that the men were looking to start trouble and well, she couldn't have that now could she. True it was her day off, but that didn't mean that the vampiress would simply walk by when it was quite obvious someone was about to get mugged...or worse. Still, it was rather bold to attempt such a thing in broad daylight, nevermind that they were in an alley. It meant that they were confident in their ability not to be caught which could mean that they were either stupid idiotic run of the mill thugs, or they had done this before. Experience told her that it was best to believe the worst case scenario lest she be caught off guard but if Carly were to guess, she'd wager that the men were idiots.
Doing her best to appear casual, the vampiress made her way to the alleyway and 'accidentally' dropped her purse. The subsequent clatter it made was enough to alert the thugs that there was someone else in the area other than the prey they were intent on, and an easier target at that. Just as Carly had thought, the men were idiots just looking for someone to boost their already inflated egos about themselves. Feigning helplessness, Carly looked like a startled deer in the headlights as the men attempted to surround her and take her purse...among other things if the vampiress had to guess from the look in their eyes. Even still, Carly waited until one of the men had the stupid idea to lay a hand on her before smirking,"Big mistake buddy..."Carly quipped before twisting said arm and using the man's weight against him to land him flat on his back.
The other two clearly didn't expect to see their leader thrown by what appeared to be a young girl and hesitated before trying to take her head on. That brief hesitation was all Carly needed before retaliating at one of the bigger men, rendering him unconscious as he fell and hit his head. It was an unfortunate turn of events but Carly hadn't expected the lumbering giant to be such a klutz either. Now there was only one remaining but it seemed this one had at least some brains and had pulled out a knife, thinking that Carly was unarmed; well then, she would just have to turn the tables on him now wouldn't she~... Not wasting a moment, Carly pulled out her pistol and aimed it at the man, her gaze unwavering even as his face paled considerably at the sight of the weapon, only confirming the vampiress' initial thought that these thugs had been idiots and cowardly ones at that if they thought they could pick up what they perceived as easy prey.
"Why don't you and your friends run along now hmm~?"Carly quipped, the confident smirk never once leaving her features,"Unless you really want to try your luck..." The man needed no further urging and with the help of their leader picked up third man and went about their business as if nothing had happened. Making a mental note to report the incident later, Carly picked up her bag and sighed, before turning to the woman she had seen walking down the alley moments before. "Sorry about that miss, name's Carly, those cowards didn't hurt you did they?"Carly asked calmly before replacing her pistol where it had been hidden before the incident.

The closer Solly got to the men, also meant the more she got see them against the bad glare of the sun behind them. They were obviously bulky, not overly but enough that she knew they would be impossible to fight off by hand, especially when it came to her. She was strong but not that strong, she relied on weapons most of the time and had never really been as worried about not being overly strong very often. There were a few times though--like the situation she was currently in--where she just wished she'd done some weight lifting or something. The odd thing was though, she wasn't really scared. She was nervous, that was for sure, but she wasn't scared. She was pretty quick on her feet, she had a weapon, even if it was only a small knife, and maybe luck would be on her side. She had to hope for the best even if especially since she couldn't prepare for the worst. She kept her fingers curled around the handle of the knife but she didn't pull it out of her handbag just yet.
What happened next was something she didn't expect. A woman, who really looked more like a girl, walked into the alley. The girl stood out with a red top and the men were quick to notice her when she dropped her purse. All attention was taken off of Solly and put straight on the girl in the red and her purse on the ground in front of her. They began to move towards her, to circle her. Solly slipped the knife out of her handbag soundlessly. She wasn't going to let them hurt someone else, even if they'd been so much of an idiot to walk into the alley. They would have seen the men, they would have seen Solly and if they had any kind of a brain they wouldn't have walked into the situation. Solly twisted the knife in her hand and began stalking towards the men, moving as quietly as she could and hoping to catch them by surprise. She wasn't going to walk away and leave them to hurt the girl. She really couldn't see it ending well.
One of the men went down. Solly's eye widened as she saw the man who had been standing between the other two, the one who was probably the leader of the small group fall flat on his back. The girl must have done it. Weapon, the girl must have had some kind of weapon to be able to do that. She was too small to be that strong. As Solly stared though, she could see no sign of a weapon. The girl had empty hands and was now attacking a second man, who followed the first man in falling, banging his head as he did. Two down, one to go. It didn't look like Solly would need to help, it looked more like she might need to go after the girl after the last man was down. No human could be that strong. Not one that small. And as quickly as that thought entered her mind, it went away. The girl took out a gun and pointed it at the third man who Solly now noticed was holding a knife and one that look much much dangerous than her own. The gun and a few words from the girl was all it took for the two conscious men to drag the third away. That was it. The girl turned to face Solly and put her gun away after speaking.
Saying that Solly was on edge after what had happened would be about right. The only thing about that was, she usually calm and calm was when she could think straight. She hadn't been prepared for anything to happen, she was on her holiday. When she was out hunting, she was mentally prepared, she could keep calm under the pressure but now her thoughts were pushing each other out of the way in attempts to all grab her attention. She felt like she was going to get a headache. It also meant that she was a bit confused about what happened. Had she not seen the gun earlier but Carly had been using it the whole time? Or was she not human. The first seemed much more likely to her, this girl had helped her, a vampire or werewolf would definitely not try and help someone who was human. They were nothing but monsters. Carly, the girl who had got ridden of the men, was nothing but a human who was smart enough to carry around a gun for situations like the one that had just happened. That was all.
In a way, that made the woman the type of person Solly respected, someone who walked around with a way to protect herself but if she thought too much into it, all it made her think of was the fact that women needed ways to protect themselves. It got her back into the whole mess of her being Soloman Lance, the girl who spent most of her life dressed as a guy in fear that she wouldn't survive in her position as Sector 12 leader if she was known to be a woman. She needed to try and not let her thoughts wander to that subject as often as they did.
"Sally," she said, shaking the more negative thoughts out of her mind. "No, they didn't get to me before you caught their attention." She smiled and then remembering that she was holding her knife, quickly slipped it back into her handbag, into the cut in the lining where she hid it. Although she felt a slight unease around Carly, she had put her weapon away so there was no reason for Solly not to put hers away. She wasn't, however, thinking of staying and chatting with her for too long. Or maybe she would. Maybe if she got to know the girl and got rid of her confused thoughts about what she was then it would be a much smarter idea. "Thanks for that, unless you actually dropped you handbag on accident." Not that Solly did think it had been any kind of accident.

Carly's eyes missed very little and was all too aware that this woman was nervous. The vampiress had trained herself to catch subtle gestures and the like in order not to be caught unawares, it made her job as a detective that much easier after all, and that had been while she still human. With her enhanced senses that becoming a vampire had given her, it was very easy to tell that this young woman before her was hardly at ease. It made sense, especially after almost being set upon by those cowardly thugs that had been almost too easy, if not boring to chase off. They had seemed genuinely surprised that their prey had lashed back at them which gave Carly the impression that they were used to getting what they wanted. The thugs had probably crawled back in to whatever hole they came from in order to nurse their wounds and bruised egos. Making a mental note to report the incident in when she got a chance, Carly returned her attention back to the woman.
The woman had been ready to defend herself if the knife she still held in her hand was any indication. That was good at least, but the small blade was hardly any use when you were outnumbered, especially when the element of surprise wasn't on your side. Still, at least she wasn't willing to go down without a fight and that was something that Carly respected. Far too often she came across damsels in distress that wouldn't do anything more other than scream and flail about like a fish out of water. Really it was ridiculous what some of people she'd come across did in an attempt to escape their captors and almost all of them, or at least the really stupid ones, had expected someone else to come for them.
The confusion written on the woman's features was to be expected, clearly she hadn't thought someone of Carly's stature would be able to throw such large men so easily. Her ability to do so wasn't based solely on her vampire strength however but also on her knowledge of martial arts. She had actually gone easy on the brutes in all honesty and hadn't even used her full strength. If she had, no doubt there would be cracks in the cobblestone road to say the least. Carly knew better than to use her full strength in the presence of a human however, Collin had certainly drilled that into her often enough. If she wanted to live, and work, among humans then she needed to act the part and not draw suspicion to herself. In hindsight it might have been foolish to attempt to take on the men but ah well, it had turned out alright in the end.
After a time, it seemed the woman had calmed down enough to speak and introduced herself as Sally. Good then, so it seemed Carly had made it in the nick of time...no doubt the cowards would've tried to take advantage of Sally given the chance. As she put away the knife, Carly could tell that Sally was still rather uneasy for whatever reason but decided not to think to much about it. Besides, Carly had shopping to do and the more time she spent dawdling around the less time she would have to find her dress. Still, she should at least make sure Sally was alright after the near incident...perhaps she would relax more at the nearby cafe, at the very least it'd get them out of the alley. Smirking, Carly nodded at Sally's next comment,"You're welcome, wasn't any trouble really. I just happened to be out shopping when I saw them staring you down,"she explained before pointing to a cafe not far down the street,"What do ya say we get out of this alley? There's a cafe not far from here if you'd like to go there, my treat," she continued, hoping that the offer would ease Sally's nerves at least a little.

Having really had not much else of a life other than one as a Hunter, the training was drilled down so deep it was practically instinct. She couldn't not let her thoughts wander to the idea of anyone around her being a monster. She knew how well they could blend in with the humans, the vampires that just got used to the sting of sunlight, werewolves that could control themselves on the day of a full moon, and she knew that if she didn't look carefully then she could just so easily miss a chance at ridding the world of a monster. Every kill counted in her mind, it was one less monster alive and possibly many human lives saved. It was why she had let herself get to the point of not being able to trust any sort of stranger if they showed any odd behaviour, she really did believe that what she was doing was the right thing and that even though she herself didn't kill an overly large amount of monsters, she was part of the Hunters and together they were saving millions of human lives with their work. And one day it would all be worth it because they would get rid of the evil the monsters caused completely.
So, of course, she couldn't get the thought out of her mind that Carly might be something other than a helpful human. Well, Carly looked normal at least with her pale hair and skin, her red blouse and jeans. Her skin being so pale could make her a vampire...no, Solly couldn't make her decision off of that, she would need a little more proof than that. The nails would be a bit of a help, if they hadn't been painted with bright red nail polish. She tried not to think of how horribly ironic it would be for a vampire to paint their nails red. Hey Solly, you're on holidays, remember? she reminded herself. She was in a beautiful place on a beautiful day, she should have been enjoying herself not trying to work out if the first person she had talked to since she got to Italy was a vampire. It was obvious that she really needed the holiday, if she couldn't get her mind away from hunting. Maybe it would be the smartest idea for her to just get away from Carly as quickly as possible and continue on with her holiday.
As Carly spoke, the offer she made didn't calm Solly's nerves, it made them spark. She heard the words as a chance to look for more signs of what Carly might be and any plans of going off and continuing on her holiday were scraped from her mind for the moment. A cafe meant food and not eating would be a big warning sign for a vampire. Or an anorexic, she joked, the woman was quite small. Things like that were why she couldn't just outright attack someone if they showed one sign that they might not be human, there was usually a human explanation for things that happened and the hard part of the job was working out when that was what happened or when it was something supernatural. Job. She wasn't working, she shouldn't have been working but it seemed like it was too late to try and get her mind off of this, her holiday was being put on hold so she could make sure no humans in the beautiful city would be injured of killed by what she was thinking was a vampire.
"Sounds like a plan, wouldn't want someone else trying to attack us here." Solly said with a smile, trying to make herself look as calm as she could. She could act like a guy well enough to fool all the Hunters but she wasn't the best person at faking emotion. There was a lot of reason behind why she would go out on Hunting trips alone on random days or lock herself up in her office with paperwork to finish. She used the flexibility she had to avoid being too near to people when she knew she would be read like a book. "I'm in no hurry to get anywhere in particular," she added as a bit of a side note while she clicked her handbag closed and pulled the bag's straps up onto her shoulder. As she walked out of the alley onto the crowded street she knew there would be no need for easy access to her knife--not that it would be much help to her if Carly was a vampire--because Carly seemed smart and any smart person, or smart monster, wouldn't attack someone in such a public place. The cafe would be safe, a way to get information and then...well, she wasn't too sure what she could do with that information knowing she didn't have much with her but she could work that out later.

In the few moments that it took Sally to answer her, Carly took the opportunity to study her. It was clear that something else had her on edge other than the fact that she had almost gotten assaulted but as to what it was the vampiress didn't care to speculate on. For whatever reason the offer to go to the cafe made Sally tense up even more but that made no sense whatsoever...usually getting out of an alleyway would calm people rather than make them worry. Unless Sally saw Carly as a threat...in which case it would make sense that she would be uneasy. That was crazy though, who in their right mind would think the person who had saved them was a threat. Maybe Sally was crazy, Carly had no idea if that was the case but for now she'd wait for an answer and go from there. Besides, the cafe was close to the bridal boutique she had in mind so it wasn't that far out of her way. Really, now that the vampiress thought about it, she probably should have just ditched Sally and headed to the boutique but ah well, hopefully finding her dress wouldn't take all that long.
When Sally finally answered her question, the vampiress smiled-careful not to show her fangs- and nodded. It was doubtful that anyone else would attack them now considering Carly was fairly well known as a detective in the area but she wasn't really worried about that. Carly was rather confident in her ability to protect herself and still conceal what she was. Heck, she'd been doing it for years now and nobody had suspected her yet, why would that change now. The comment about not being in a hurry elicited another nod from Carly as she lead the way out of the alley. She was about to enter the cafe when the vampiress caught sight of one of her friends from the precinct. Well, wasn't that just her luck, now she could tell someone about the attempted attack and not have to worry about it later. Ugh...why did it have to be Roberto...he always treated her like a child and just-sigh...ah well, best get this over with.
Flagging down the officer in question, Carly waited until the man came over...and proceeded to pick her up and spin her around like a little girl... It was all Carly could do to resist the urge to punch him then and there,"Dammit Roberto! Put me down, I'm not a child!"she all but spat out before the officer did as was demanded of him, grinning from ear to ear as he did so. "Do that again and I swear I'll make ya regret it,"Carly sighed out before rubbing her temples briefly,"Anyway, couldya put an alert for three thugs? They had the audacity to try and attack Sally here, I ended up drawing them away and scaring them off but the cowards will probably try again," she continued, thankful that Roberto's stupid smirk had faded away to something more serious as he pulled out his notebook.
As Carly listed the details about the men that had attempted to rob them, the officer wrote down everything and said that he would deal with it once he arrived at the precinct again before asking her what she was doing attracting thugs to attack in the first place. Smirking, Carly shrugged, "What can I say? I guess I just can't stay outta trouble~. Yeah I know it's my day off but hey, all I did was drop my purse then defended myself when they tried to attack. No harm done. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I work too much but I'm not gonna stand by and do nothing either. Anyway, gotta go, I promised I'd treat Sally to the cafe here before going wedding dress shopping. Oh shaddap you, I don't want to hear it Mr. I'm-married-already-with-a-baby-on-the-way,"she quipped, fending off any attempt at teasing on Roberto's part.
It was no news to well...everyone at the precinct that Carly was excited about getting married and nigh everyone gave her a hard time about the honeymoon and the like. Of course, Carly had only just begun preparations, she still had a long way to go before the vampiress could believe herself to be ready for the big day. With that, Roberto finally stopped trying to tease Carly and went on his way before telling the two ladies to have fun. Waving goodbye, Carly turned back to Sally and motioned to the cafe,"Sorry about that, he's a friend from work. Shall we go?"the vampiress explained briefly before heading into the cafe without really waiting for a reply. Sitting down at a table adjacent to the window, Carly leaned back in her chair and waited for Sally to join her. No doubt the exchange with Roberto would elicit questions from Sally but Carly wasn't all too worried about it, it wasn't a big secret that she was a detective anyway and Sally would've found out sooner or later.

As Solly walked out of the alley with Carly and started towards the cafe, the last thing she expected to see was a police office pick up Carly and swing her around as if she were a little girl. It was surprising enough to see Carly start towards the officer, she really hadn't expected such a reaction that suggested they knew each other well to a point. It seemed funny at first, as if the officer were making fun of how young Carly looked but that reaction hardly lasted. Solly was so sure that Carly wasn't human, was probably a vampire with the lack of other signs, so why did it look like she was on friendly terms with an officer? She tried to keep her eyes from widening as she watched the exchange between Carly and the officer. Carly told the officer, Roberto, to put her down and he did. Solly keep listening, having to listen closely to make sure she heard enough words clearly. She was unpracticed in Italian but she was managing to get the gist of what Carly was saying, since Carly was speaking clearly and straight-forward. Carly told the officer about the attack, telling him to put an alert for three thugs. Solly watched, feeling a little relieved as she did, the officer take out a notebook and take what Carly said seriously.
It was obvious by now to Solly that Carly was a local, not a tourist like Solly was. She had lived in Italy before, when the Hunter's HQ had been located there but it hadn't been anywhere near Venice. It had been away from the tourist filled areas. She'd enjoyed the quietness of the location, it had been different to where they were now, on the tourist popular island, Saipan. Not that she didn't like where the base had moved to, she had too many good memories on Saipan and on other islands nearby to not like the location. Venice was different to both the locations that she'd seen the Hunter's HQ settle at, it was a place she hardly knew much about and in a way, it made her uneasy to know that Carly was a local and to see that she had the trust of at least one local law enforcer. If the woman was a vampire, it wasn't a good sign to see that, not a good sign at all. Solly scratched the back of her neck nervously and continued to listen in to the conversation between Carly and Roberto.
It was all just friendly conversation now, comments about it being a day off, about Carly working too much and wedding dress shopping. Solly didn't want to process the words and work out what they meant at first. She was not going to believe this woman was human and that meant she couldn't believe this woman would have such a human life. The fact that she could be so close to humans without whipping out her pair of fangs and causing a disaster was a scary enough thought but having human relationships, having a human job...Solly knew that they supernatural "community" (if you so wanted to call it a community) clashed with the humans, she knew that they lived in human cities and towns and could look just like any other person but she had never really seen close up just had intertwined they could be.
Carly could pass so many tests to call her human from helping someone, to having human friends, having a job and from what Solly had also just heard, a fiance; it was so sickening to Solly. It was sickening and it was scary and it made her wonder just how many lives had been destroyed and ended because they'd been friends with a monster for a while and then been turned into food so suddenly. You would never expect your best friend to invite you out one night, to a club maybe and then to drag you into an alley and drain you of blood. No one would expect that and that was why it would work so well for the monsters. It really was a scary side to it all, it was scary enough thinking of the vampires and werewolves as monsters lurking in the shadows, thinking of them as monsters that could be your neighbour or best friend added a whole different level.
Thinking that this might be her first time coming across a human living monster was worrying. It was worrying because she was halfway across the world from the Hunter's HQ, she was halfway across the world from her favourite hunting partner and she was highly limited on weapons she could get to easy, especially on weapons that would work against a vampire. She really should have packed more werewolf tooth daggers, even if it had meant not bringing any silver weapons, at this point the werewolf tooth would be so much more helpful. Click. And Carly was somehow part of the police force. "Sorry about that, he's a friend from work." she had said, that wasn't what Solly hadn't wanted to hear. Yes, she really wished for werewolf tooth daggers, werewolf tooth tipped arrows, even the single tooth that hung from string around her lance. If Carly was any kind of monster, she was a vampire. Solly wasn't going to let herself drop her suspicion on Carly yet. Not yet. "Yeah," Solly said, starting again towards the cafe. "You're an officer?" She had to ask, to make sure she hadn't misheard anything, even though Carly had said that last part in English, Solly didn't want to trust her ears completely.
They got to the cafe and Solly smiled at how cute it looked. The building that the cafe was in had an outer wall of unpainted red-brown bricks. One arched window sat on the left of an archway door with the borders of both the window and the door painted an off white. There were a couple of tables sitting outside on the footpath. Inside the floor was tiled using similar colours to the outside of the building and the wooden tables sat with menus on each empty one. The cafe was anything but empty, people sat chatting, on their laptops, tablets, reading, there was even someone sitting on a corner doing a crossword. It was so alive and so normal. If only they knew of what Carly probably was, what Solly was, of what the world was really filled with. Ignorance was bliss. Solly sat down at one of the empty tables and picked up a menu, flipping through it. After a minute she put it back down and look up at Carly. "Anything you recommend?"

Carly was too busy talking to Roberto to notice the nigh alarm on Sally's features. Besides, Roberto was a headache to deal with without having to deal with a paranoid tourist that Sally came off as at that point. She could practically smell the fear...or something similar to it that was coming from her even as Roberto continued to tease her. It was admittedly a little distracting but mercifully Carly was able to end the conversation rather quickly and head to the cafe. The question from Sally remained unanswered for a short time until the vampiress was certain Roberto wasn't going to stop her again. Given the chance, Carly wouldn't put it past him to try and surprise her and pick her up again. Like that was going to happen what with her keen senses that being a vampiress had brought her but Roberto didn't know that. Still, the sooner she got off the street and away from her annoying coworker the better.
It wasn't until Carly was certain that they were far enough away that she allowed herself to relax again. Good, at least he wasn't going to try anything funny this time...who knew what the next meeting would bring though. Sigh, maybe he had only let her off the hook because of Sally...who knew, whatever the case they were in the cafe at last. Relaxing in her chair, Carly was tempted to put her feet up but decided against it lest she give Sally the wrong impression. Had she the power to read Sally's mind she would have surely laughed at how nervous she was simply because she had said hello to a friend on the street. "Wasn't meaning to ignore ya hun', Roberto...he's a headache and a half and I wanted to make sure he was leaving before I found my feet lifted off the ground again,"Carly explained after Sally had seated herself at the table,"And actually, I'm not an officer, I'm a detective. So much better than a police officer in my opinion,"she continued before flipping through the menu herself.
At first, Carly wasn't going to order anything lest she make herself sick before looking for her dress. That was before she spotted that they had a special on their sundaes and...ohhey they had strawberry shakes now. Then again, Carly had never really looked at the menu in this particular cafe considering it was further away from home than her usual stop. Having decided her order after a moment, the vampiress set down her menu just as Sally asked if she recommended anything. "Well now, I'm in the mood for something sweet. Tell ya what, we can split a sundae and you can order whatever you so desire. They make a mean latte here though, one of my favorites though I don't come to this particular cafe all that often. It's further away from home and all but the occasional visit is nice,"Carly offered, just as a waitress came over to the table to take their order.
Waiting a few moments for Sally to place her order, Carly ordered an extra strawberry shake and a sundae to split before the waitress walked away. For whatever reason it seemed that Sally still appeared tense as if any sudden move would scare her...good grief this girl needn't to relax already, wasn't that what tourists usually did when they visited Italy... "Relax hun, nobody's gonna bite ya or nothing. The folks here are some of the nicest around, besides, isn't a vacation meant to...I don't know...take a break? Come now, you're as tight as a drum. Those cowards aren't gonna hide forever so dontcha worry alright Sally. Anyway, were ya headed anywhere in particular before I ran into ya?"Carly replied in a slightly teasing voice, smirking a little as she did so.

Solly moved a loose frizzy curl away from face and rested her arms on the table. She knew that she must have looked on edge, she knew how much of an open book she was being right now and she was trying to look calm and relaxed but it was failing. She guessed it wasn't that bad that she looked on edge though, it could easily be put to the fact that really only minutes before she'd been in danger of being attacked by some thugs. Not everyone could calm down from such an event quickly and if Carly were to ask what was wrong, she could just use that as an excuse. There was no reason she even had to hint at what she was really thinking. She didn't want to chance Carly hinting at what Solly was and working out why she was actually so on edge. In every way that she imagined that happening, none of them ended well. Making an attempt at a bit of an amused grin, Solly commented on what Carly had said about Roberto. "He seems like one of those annoying people." The grin an the comment didn't last very long as Carly spoke again, giving a confirmation on what her job was. A detective, for some reason that didn't make Solly feel any bit better. That was a respectable position and one that would make her trusted. It was a position that would give her a great way to get prey, if people trusted her that much they really wouldn't expect anything. She wouldn't even have to bother with getting too close to them before draining them. She shuddered inside, feeling disgust building up in her throat. She was thinking way too much into this and it was not doing her any good. She shut her eyes for a moment, taking in a deep breath and trying not to make it completely obvious. She just needed to calm down, collect her thoughts and either find some solid proof that this woman was a vampire or enjoy being at the cafe and going back to her holiday. Carly answered Solly's question, giving more evidence that suggested she wasn't a vampire. She recommended a sundae and latte. Solly didn't allow herself to panic at the comment, she instead thought over the offer and decided to order a latte and split a sundae with Carly. It couldn't hurt her and she would be able to see if it hurt Carly. A sundae would work well as a test, she could just watch Carly's reaction as she ate and see if there were any signs of her becoming sick. It would be difficult, since Solly hadn't ever seen a vampire react to eating food before. The thought dropped into her mind of possibly taking a vampire in and doing some tests of that sort before killing them, the thought put her at unease in the smallest bit but the push of a reminder of how she would only be hurting a vampire was enough to put that unease to rest. It wasn't as if she would be doing torturous tests on humans. Really, she should have done some before, to be able to recognise those more difficult to notice signs of a supernatural creature. Ordering her food, she folded her hands together on the table and found that even if she was trying to get her thoughts together, she couldn't relax. How have I not had a stroke from stressing before? she groaned to herself, almost feeling stupid at how she was acting. It didn't get any better as Carly spoke, specifically saying that nobody was going to bite her. The comment made her jump in a way that it shouldn't of. Bite. She had to say that, with Solly's worries about her being a vampire. "I'm just shook up over the stupid thugs, that's all. In such a nice place you don't expect things like that to happen." She spoke with a jumpiness to her tone and forced a smile onto her face as she finished speaking, one she knew looked as forced as it was. "I'm guessing you would see things like it all the time though, being a detective."Word Count; 706 Tags; Carly EvansNotes; Written after midnight so I'm not sure if the post is any good.

Carly watched Solly as they waited for the waitress to bring them their orders. The girl seemed to be on pins and needles still even after she had made a point to tell the authorities. Anybody else she had met would have relaxed after hearing that the thugs were being looked for... so why was Solly so different...? Perhaps she hadn't expected such a thing to happen to her, but then again, nobody did. Besides, who in their right mind would go looking for trouble.
Solly's comment about Roberto elicited a small laugh from Carly as the vampiress shook her head,"You don't know the half of it,"she replied easily before continuing on about what her job was if only to have something to talk about. Perhaps if she kept talking, Solly would eventually relax and realize that she was safe now for heaven's sake. There was something.... off about this girl... though what exactly it was, Carly couldn't quite put her finger on it. That or maybe she was just reading too much into this...
Collin was right, she was working too hard if she saw something suspicious behind every single action; Solly was a tourist after all, not a terrorist. Maybe she was still just shook up over the events that had happened earlier that day. Encouraging, Solly to relax, Carly noticed that the girl seemed to jump when she used the word 'bite'. Good grief, was this girl afraid of teeth or something? The smile Solly offered her was most definitely fake and Carly couldn't help but wonder why the girl was so nervous still... The explanation about being still shaken up didn't seem to be the truth... if that wasn't it then why was she so anxious In the obvious safety of a café...
Before Carly could give much thought about Solly's odd behavior, the waitress arrived with their order much to the vampiress' delight. Not wasting any time, Carly first ate the cherry at the top of her shake and took a big sip of the shake, relishing the nigh strawberry heart attack that was her smoothie. "Mmmm, this is delicious~, how's your latte?"Carly commented before taking a bite of the sundae-making sure to take one of the huge strawberries that came with it- and humming in delight. Sure she might be making herself sick later down the line, but Carly would like to think that she had built up enough of a tolerance that it wouldn't be that bad... maybe she could write it off as being lactose intolerant... yeah, that would be good.
