(Special thanks to one of the first SP members, Rose, who wrote up a guide to the werewolves and vampires in which I used to get some of the information for my own guide. You were an awesome and loved member!)
(If there is any information you want to know on the supernatural species that isn't found in this thread, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM and I'll answer your question to the best of my ability. (: )
Werewolves
Werewolves are people who have the ability to transform or “shape shift” into a wolf. The transformations are controlled by the moon and its cycle, so when there is a new moon it is almost impossible for a lycan to shift to its wolf form but when there is a full moon it is almost impossible for a lycan to not shift to its wolf form. It is possible for werewolves to control when they shift and stop themselves from shifting when there is a full moon but it takes years, a lot of self-control and not many lycans actually manage it.
Werewolves are known by multiple names. The most common of course is a werewolf but a werewolf can also be called:
- a lycanthrope
- a lycan
- a son/daughter/child of the moon
- a loup-garou
- a wolf shifter
- a shape shifter.
These different names come from different legends and different languages.
There are two ways to become a werewolf. The first is for the lycan to have one or both of the parent’s beings werewolves, this passes on the infection to the child through the family bloodline. Most of the time werewolves created in this way will have both parents being lycans because most of the time lycans don’t mate outside of their own species, about three quarters of the time they don’t even mate outside their own pack. The second way to become a werewolf is by spreading the infection from a werewolf to a human. This is done by contaminating the bloodstream of the human with the saliva of the werewolf. The easiest way for this to be done is through biting the victim, though there are other ways of doing this.
Werewolves are immortal like the other two of the supernatural species. A werewolf born with the infection will stop aging at around the age of twenty-one. A person who is infected will stop aging after their first shift into their wolf form. Though lycans are immortal, they can be killed. The most simple way to kill a werewolf is silver, the slightest bit of it can burn the skin of one and in large amounts it can easily cause death. Things like decapitation, cutting into the heart and human poisons can work as well. Note that poisons that kill humans aren’t as affective on werewolves.
Werewolves live in groups or families called packs. Packs can range from a male and female to around thirty or forty members. They are very close knit communities and most of the time families stay in the same pack for generations. Though not always, most lycans will find a mate within their pack. New comers also aren’t often welcomed into larger packs because they are seen as threats to the community. The leader of a pack is called the alpha. Depending on the pack, an alpha will either always be a male or will sometimes be a male and sometimes a female, packs with older traditions will never allow a female to be the alpha. To become an alpha a lycan either has to kill the current alpha or if the current alpha dies without being killed, the lycan has to battle with any other werewolves that want to be alpha to gain the position. The alpha has control over things like food, pack lands, how the children are raised and what human things are allowed in the pack.
As well as being able to shift into wolf forms, werewolves also have a few powers and abilities. The powers and abilities include inhuman strength, inhuman speed, inhuman senses including hearing, sight and smell, being able to shift at will, and rapid healing. The fact that they have inhuman strength shows on some lycans with insane muscle mass in their human form but for other lycans you wouldn’t know they had that strength at all. The hearing of a werewolf has the range about twice the distance of a humans hearing and about three times the pitch, both higher and lower. The range of sight is about one and a half times farther in daytime and about twice as far at night. The sense of smell that a werewolf has is the same as a dog’s. The strongest sense is hearing. Rapid healing is the most helpful ability. It means that is a lycan is to get in a fight or just injure themselves falling over or something in their human form they can heal much quicker than a human. On average a minor sprain will heal in about two hours and a broken bone will heal in about one to two days.
There are a few signs that can show that someone is a werewolf when they are in their human form. There are four signs but all of them aren’t shown by all werewolves and if they aren’t shown it is still possible that the person can be a lycan. The four signs are a limping walk, shaggy, unkempt hair, slight fevers (most uncommon) and a growling tone when they talk. Younger lycans are known to have quite grumpy personalities and that can be seen as another sign of what they are.
Vampires
A vampire is a human that has been changed by another vampire and must survive by drinking blood. They either drink the blood of humans or animals but are all tempted by human blood and can‟t always control their bloodlust. Vampires learn control through time and practice, the older a vampire is, the more likely they are to have better control around humans.
Most vampires survive by drinking human blood, either killing humans, or getting blood from hospitals or blood banks. There are vampires that choose to survive on animal blood, they are called vegetarians. Vegetarian vampires need to feed more often than traditional vampires, they also have senses not as strong as traditional vampires and can often feel like feeding is a chore because of how the blood of animals smells and tastes horrible. Most vegetarian vampires have slipped up at least once and killed a human.
As well as being known as vampires, they are also sometimes called children of the night, vamps or when it comes to those who don’t like the creatures, vampires are called bloodsuckers, demons and letches. There are other names for vampires as each human culture has some kind of legend about vampires. Most of the time though, vampires are just called vampires.
There is only one way to become a vampire and it is very messy, painful and isn’t always successful. To become a vampire, a human has to go through two steps. The first step is to get bitten by a vampire and to have the vampire venom enter the human’s bloodstream. This step is the stage where most vampires fail at their attempts to change humans because their bloodlust takes over and they don’t stop drinking until the human is drained. The second step to become a vampire is for the human to then drink the vampire’s blood. This step takes a lot of mental strength from the vampire to let someone drink their blood and a lot of mental strength from the human to actually drink blood from the vampire. This stage is the least likely of the two for the change to fail at but it still often does fail at this stage because either the human or vampire just can’t complete the stage and then vampire will usually kill the human if this happens. After the two steps are completed, it takes around twenty-four hours for the change to be complete. The human will go into a deep sleep, almost like death, a lot of their human organs will stop working and they will grow new organs, like the one in the back of their throat that creates the venom.
A newborn vampire, or a fledgling as they are sometimes called, is very unpredictable. They have little to no control over their bloodlust and can often be full of a lot of anger at their creator and the world for making them into a vampire and cutting their human life short. It is never safe for a human to be around a newborn vampire that has only been a vampire for a few days, weeks or months. It is only smart for a human to be around a vampire that was changed over a year ago.
Vampires are immortal like werewolves and dragons. They stop aging when their change is completed but as part of the change, they can look younger. Many vampires like to lie about what age they were when they were changed because they look younger and people believe they were younger. Like the other two species, they can also be killed. There are only two possible ways to kill a vampire. The first way is to burn them to death, fire burns a vampire much quicker than it would burn a human or animal. The second way to kill a vampire is to decapitation, this is very difficult though because the only thing that cut through vampire skin is vampire teeth and nails, and werewolf teeth.
Vampires live in groups called covens, covens can range from around four members, to almost a hundred before they become too large to stay as one coven. A coven is much different to a werewolf pack in the way that the vampires in a coven don’t act like they are family at all, unless they have created a friendship with another vampire or have a mate, a vampire will not have any type of close relationship with other vampires in their coven. All the vampires know the coven leader though, and fear him or her knowing that their coven leader has the power to kill or torture them if they feel like it. Coven leaders don’t often change but every so often, they are killed and need a replacement. In a coven there is always a second in charge who will take over the coven if the current leader had been killed by someone not in the coven but if someone in a coven kills their leader, they are automatically made the new leader of the coven. Every so often, one or two vampires in a coven will want power and will attempt to kill the current leader, they aren’t often successful.
Out of the three supernatural species, vampires are the most likely to live in the human world. Once a vampire has control of their bloodlust it is very easy for them to fit into the human world, they don’t have to worry about everyone looking at them because they have a magic aura, and they don’t have to worry about changing into a wolf on a full moon night or getting in trouble with other vampires for being around humans. The only trouble about living with humans is that all vampires have slip ups around humans and lose control of their bloodlust and they don’t age so they have to move around a lot so the humans don’t get suspicious. They can’t live with humans completely because of how they don’t need much sleep, only one or two hours per two weeks.
Vampires have a few powers and abilities that help them to survive. These powers and abilities are inhuman speed, inhuman senses including hearing, sight and smell, and hypersensitive touch. A vampire’s sight is two and a half times further in the day time and three times as further at night. Their hearing is one and a half times distance wise and twice pitch wise both ways. Their smell is four times as strong as a humans, making smell their strongest sense. A vampire’s senses work together to make them the ultimate hunter. Their sight, smell, hearing and touch all help them know what is in their surrounds and makes them perfect at finding prey, that either being a human or an animal. When a vampire runs at their top speed, they are invisible to the human eye and make no noise that a human ear could hear though vampires can hear other vampires when they run. A vampires smell can also tell them if a human or animal is sick, though it won’t tell them all sicknesses, they can smell out any diseases or bugs that will weaken them at all.
Vampires are very good at hiding the fact that they are vampires but there are a few signs which show that a person is a vampire. Vampires have glass like finger nails, pale, cold skin, sharp canine teeth and they are very graceful in their movement (they never stumble, always walk perfect, sit down gracefully, etc.).
Vampires create a special clear liquid that is called their venom. The name doesn’t completely fit what it does though, a vampires venom is in no way a poison to anything. The venom does many different things, but it never hurts or harms anything. The venom is used to heal vampires if they get hurt (it is hard in the first place for a vampire to get hurt), it also stops the pain of a vampire biting a human, instead of the human being in pain, they can hardly feel anything, the venom is also very important in the process of changing a human.
Dragons
(The dragon guide was not written by me. It was originally written by Esme and edited by Ginger, I think. They get full credit for this, I get none.)
The Guide of Dragons
Chapter One: Introduction
1:1 This Book
As this book may look old, that is because it is quite old. It has been passed down from the first three as they have had children and their children, and so on. Over the ages, they have been translated to more modern languages, and more have been made so as to accommodate the swelling number of dragons.
Dragons are quite common among their world, but have perfected the art of hiding, so they seem rare. These books are written by dragons, for dragons, so if this book has fallen into the hands of anybody but the mentioned, be cautious of those watching you.

1:2 What You Are
The dragon has many different names, fafnir and wyrm among those names, and are a very special creature. Its most memorable aspects are their armor, wings, tail and horns. All dragons breathe fire as all are born with it, but a few of the strongest can breathe a unique substance that has been named acid, all thought its components haven’t been able to be examined.
You are a very instinctual creature by nature, and cannot help it. If you find yourself having a hard time feeling strong emotions, don’t be worried, because that is the way of a dragon. If you were changed into a dragon, this will be a very unnerving happening, but it’s natural, and you are not to be alarmed.
NOTE: To anybody reading this that has a dragon as a mate, be careful with them, because they are very passionate and are prone to jealous fits. Never threaten them, because they will not be afraid to act accordingly.
Chapter Two: Description
2:1 Appearance
Their hide: a dragons’ hide is a soft skin that is covered by scales that are the hardest known to man. They are beautiful and are often of an opalescent coloring, so that they glow in the moonlight. The only place that isn’t covered by these beauties, are the soft underbellies that most reptiles suffer from. The scales are rarely lost, and when they are, it takes over a hundred years for that are to be successfully healed from its trauma. Dragons will molt every two years to get rid of the dead “skin” at the end of each scale that grows rapidly.
Legs: most dragons have 4 or 2 strong legs with sharp claws that grip onto anything. Some dragons may be able to retract their deadly claws, but most, while in dragon form, tend to keep their claws at ready.
The wings: most dragons have 2 power wings in various positions on their backs. They may fly very long distances with the use of these powerful limbs. They are made of two parts: -The wing membrane: this is the transparent skin that stretches between the “fingers” of each wing, and are what catch the wind so as to fly. -The wing’s “hand”: what this means is the outline and the fingers that stretch out from the main body of the wing, which is at the top of every wing. Each finger is tipped by deadly claws.
The mouth: the teeth that commonly crowd a dragon’s mouth are stronger then any other species, and can be compared to only their scales with how hard they are. Beneath their tongues that are commonly pink/purple, is a kind of spout that is the source of the fire that most dragons breath with ease.
Eyes: the best seeing in the world. They can see anything within thousands of mile range if they choose to, and they are able to see in the dark just as well. The eyes tend to glow a tiny bit at night, but nothing noticeable unless staring right at it.
Ears: tiny, indistinguishable slits on the side of the head that are the best hearing in the world.
Tongue: as all other reptiles, it is used to smell and taste the air around them. They are better at distinguishing the smells where it is coming from, and how far away it is, but is still not their most reliable sense.
Horns: most full adult dragons have horns, which they will lose periodically as they age and large horns grow in underneath, much like baby teeth with regular teeth. They stop growing at around a million years old, and that is when their horns are at their greatest span.
2:2 Personality
There are many different personalities between dragons, but there are three main ones that I will elaborate one. It all depends on how they started, genetics, and how they were trained and raised.
Type One: Power The main focus of this dragon is to be the most powerful. They are willing to be manipulative to gain power and get what they want out of life. These tend to live in the main cities and also sometimes own their own businesses.
Type Two: Uncaring The main focus of an uncaring dragon is that of the need to ignore their heritage. These dragons hate being what they are, and so they tend to hide it as best as possible, and move on in life as a humanoid. These are also the most shunned of dragons.
Type Three: Possession It is widely believed that all dragons have treasures. What the real truth is that there are certain types of dragons that hoard all kinds of treasures, whether they be actual treasure, or actually just shiny objects depends on the drake, but these are the most commonly depicted dragons in legend, because they refuse to ever leave their nest.
2:3 Self Perceptions
Dragons are a very proud race, and believe themselves to be at the very top of the “food-chain” in the world. They believe that the order of strength is as follows: Dragons > Werewolves > Vampires > Hunters > Protettores > Humans
2:5 Interactions
Each dragon will react differently when they come in contact with each species, but here is a general way as to how most will react:
Dragons: They may fight to see who wins in dominance. Will have children with this species.
Werewolves: Love to scare these beasts, but also like to fight them, more then just dominance. Will have children with this species.
Vampires: Show a strong dislike for this undead species, and will kill them on site if they are able to. Will NOT have children with this species.
Hunters: They don’t fear these strong human warriors, but they do acknowledge their strength when they show it successfully.
Protettores: Don’t care much for these “protectors,” and won’t interact with them if there’s a choice.
Humans: A food source sometimes, but not often, since dragons like the feed off of livestock and that type of animal. Will not mate with humans, and this includes hunters and protettores.
Chapter Three: History
3:1 Creation
First there was only one, Níðhöggr who watched over the world from the high reaches of the sky. She mated with a dinosaur, and had 3 eggs, and then three children: Haven, Rosa and Flamaviaro. They hatched shortly before Níðhöggr was imprisoned, and so they used this very book, which was then written in stone, to teach themselves. It its because of them, that the dragon race flourished, and grew greatly.
It was found well after the year of Christ that the poison that female dragons hold in their saliva may transform the strongest of humans into a smaller dragon, not the strongest. So it has been found that the smaller species of dragons, which have been called Lily-Farers, were once human. Dragons have always been able to assume the humanoid form.
Chapter Four: Instincts
4:1 Children
Dragons feel the need to have at least one child in their long, long life time, but they can resist it if they need to hide themselves among unknowing humans. This push is what kept the dragon population from freezing in place.
4:2 Fighting
While in a battle a dragon will take it very seriously. Do not challenge a dragon unless you are positive you may win.
A dragon will only leave if it is in its molting stage and threatened. This is usually done by flying away, although it is also a very fast and able runner. A dragon has the following points to help in battle: flying, agility, sharp teeth, claws, strength, horns, and fire. They use these advantages to ensure that they will be the winners of whatever battle that they are in.
4:3 Secrecy
Dragons only feel the need to hide their forms by those that they deem unlucky enough to see it. Also, they tend to hide where their real lairs, which are hidden caves, because that is where they feel safest, and will go during their time of molting. Other then these two things, dragons will not hide anything, and are very open people.
Chapter Five: Training
5:1 Introduction
This section of the book is for new parents of a baby dragon on when to start teaching them in different subjects of being a dragon among other things. It will help you create a lesson plan through the beginning years.
5:2 Lessons
As you start around age two with their training they will be fun activities and very simple developing the brain and skills like karate or tree climbing. Around age five you will start working on wilderness survival and transforming into your dragon form for longer periods of time. Around age eight you start on skills like flying, strength, and methods. Around age thirteen you put it all together and training will be much harder and more difficult.
5:3 Topics
You want to make sure that these are the main topics through your teachings to make them better adults: Strength: to develop their body correctly throughout their body. Flying: to learn how to correctly fly long distances, and do so quickly. Attack: to teach them how to fight correctly so that they will live longer. Agility: to develop their speed and flexibility. Defense: to teach them how to protect themselves when threatened, and when to back down.
Chapter Six: Conclusion
This book is just a basis of the way of dragonhood, and should not be taken as the guidelines of life. Be free to change whatever sounds wrong in your mind through your teachings of children, and elder dragons, to be your own person.
NOTE: This book has had many edits and additions, so it is most definitly not what was once written by Níðhöggr.
