Gwen walked along the corridor of her new school on her way to homeroom. On either side of her were Lori Ann Thacher, a blue eyed blond girl of 15 years of age, and to her left was Mary Jane Myers, a brunette with hazel eyes. Both were in her homeroom and both were her only friends so far. They took her under their wing when others teased. Gwen was happy to have them. The girls were taller than Gwen by several inches, making it obvious they were 3 years her senior.
Gwen had always looked younger than she was and It wasn't easy fitting in to a high school when you were the age of a middle school 2nd year to begin with. She was glad for the first time that her brothers were all much older than her. Gwen was used to the stares and finger pointing and hushed or whispered comments that others didn't know she could hear like she was standing next to them. It was easier with her friends, but they didn't always have classes together and at times, Gwen would be walking alone. The other students could be really cruel. She did smile at times though, when some of the girls complained about how cute she was and of the boys all looking at her as she walked by. It had thickened her skin to that nonsensical, or at least that was what the would tell herself and anyone who asked. Anyone watching Gwen would see different. Her eyes were downcast, Her expression somewhere between lost and deep in thought as she navigated the halls with her friends.
Her friends were carrying on with bubbly talk of school gossip, but Gwen wasn't paying much attention to them today. She was listening just enough to know when to chime in and act interested. In reality she was miles away at her old school, missing her old friends and care-free life she had there. An especially nasty comment was made about her lack of being flat chested by a group of girls from her class who were standing at their lockers. Gwen walked along, her books hugged to her chest. They all laughed as she walked by. Gwen's friends didn't hear, but Gwen couldn't help but hear. It was one of the downsides to being a lycan.
Gwen ignored allot of things, but this bothered her, for some reason. Even though she knew she was just 12 and would develop soon enough, it was just one more thing that stood out about her. There was just no hiding the fact she was allot younger than she should be.
The school had a uniform code that further complicated things. A tan vest over canary yellow polo shirt and knee length navy blue skirt. How totally boring and stupid, she'd complained to anyone who'd listen at home. She got little sympathy and it ticked her off.
Gwen was jolted out of her thinking and brought to an abrupt stop when she bumped into someone. Her books fell from her grasp and onto the floor when she got the scent of vampire. She wrinkled her nose and cursed herself for not paying attention as she looked up to see who the blood sucker she ran into was. Her eyes looked straight ahead, but she saw nothing but yellow uniform shirt. Her eyes continued up to the face of an oriental boy. The boy looked to be ten feet tall, or so it felt like from her 5' height. She stared into dark eyes that were looking down at her brown ones. Carefree black hair and a smile on his face. She breathed in again, and this time she smelled a human. The vampire stench was more of a lingering smell. On top of that, he radiated warmth. So he must be human. Not only that, but he was gorgeously handsome!
The laughter of her friends made her realize she was staring at the boy. She blushed, looking away. “I'm so sorry. I didn't see you” She apologized, obviously embarrassed.

Yukki looked at his phone, hitting the home button over and over again, waiting for someone to message him. why am I killing myself, I don't know anyone that would message me He walked to his locker and pulled out the books he needed, sliding them into his backpack. It was just his first day of school and he hadn't made any friends yet. It was unlike him to keep to himself so much.
He slammed shut his locker door and sighed, pressing the home button again on his phone. "No new messages. Must not be that important" He said aloud, his mouth pressed in a tight line. A tall muscular boy with a few of his friends pushed past Yukki, turning to him and telling him in a rough voice to watch where he was going. "Nerd". The term had been floating around him all day.
Yukki sighed and slid the other strap of his backpack over his shoulder, hugging his notebook to his chest. He was just about to head to homeroom when someone walked right into him! His book dropped and papers scattered all over the floor. The few people that were standing around giggled a little and continued walking, the papers getting wrinkled and smudges on them. Fuck, my homework! He thought, cursing the moment.
He looked down, frowning for a moment to see who had made his already bad day worse. A flash of brown hair and then big golden brown eyes looked up at him. "ohh.." He gasped, reaching out quickly to help the girl up. She was very little compared to him. His 6'1 body frame towering over the girl. He leaned down and picked up her books for her, stacking them and then grabbed his papers, shoving them all in a messy pile back into his folder.
Yukki stood up, clutching both his folder and her books to his chest. His face flushed with color as the girl spoke to him, apologizing. "It was my fault I... uh..." He stopped before he insulted her height. "I'm sorry, I'm Yukki. Yukki Miafuji." He smiled down at her, flashing pearly whites to the friendly face. She seemed soft featured, like him and perfect. Maybe his day is looking up.

The world seemed to slow for Gwendolyn as she took the tall boys hand to help her up. At 5 foot nothing and 93 lbs, he probably didn't even feel her lithe weight. All conversation around her faded to the background as She watched him pick up all her books and felt her heart flutter when he smiled down at her. Her cheeks warmed at the sight of his own doing the same. >>Wake up, stupid. What's wrong with you?<< she thought to herself trying to make sense of what was happening to her. She felt disconnected from herself.
The fact that he'd spoken was almost lost to her. She blinked coming back to her senses.
“I'm..” She paused trying to remember her name. “Gwendolyn Mattias” She said softly. “Just Gwen is fine” She glanced over at her friends. They smiled and then pretended to talk to each other. There was a Cackle of laughter behind Gwen. She stiffened recognizing the voices from two of the girls from homeroom who liked to pick on her. (laughter) “I know, right? How pathetic. She runs into that cute guy on purpose just to get his attention” one said.
Gwen blushed in embarasment. Her gaze never left Yukkis. Her facial expression said “Thats not true”.
“yeah, Like she's got a shot. She's like what? 10 was it?” The other said.
Gwen lowered her gaze. She couldn't look at Yukki. What must he be thinking right now?. She felt anger building. Her friends Lori and Jean came to her side, but Gwen stopped them. “Guys.. let it go. Its not worth being expelled” She said grabbing their sleeves. “Right. We'll get the dean” Lori suggested and they walked off.
“Yeah, you nannies go get lost” one chortled, as they stepped forward closer to Gwen.
Gwen's eyes welled with unshed tears. She glanced back up at Yukki then lowered her gaze again. “Are you going to invite him over to play barbies” they broke out into laughter.
Her hands curled into firsts. “Stop it!” she growled, turning on her heel to face them. If they weren't so busy laughing, they might have noticed how darkly the words sounded. How her expression was threatening, decisive and utterly unafraid. Gwens feet spread wide and her eyes promised violence. One finally looked at her properly and chocked on her laughter. Gwen's hands shot out so fast that they only saw a blur before feeling the pain of balling their shirts in her fists. She yanked down and even though she barely broke 90 lbs soaking wet, the two girls legs buckled and they landed hard on their knees to be at eye level with Gwen. They yelled out in pain eyes going wide in surprise.“Apologize” she growled, murder in her voice.
Then she just stopped. Her first relaxed and the girls got back to their feet, wincing and whining about the pain. Gwen wouldn't bring shame to her family by revealing their secret. She'd been taught better than that. >>”With great power comes greater responsibility” was just one of the lessons taught her by her father. Gen knew she was smarter, stronger and hell of allot cuter than any of them. They were jealous! Thats why they picked on her. What other reason could there be?
The girls looked past her at something behind. They turned and walked away. Gwen knew they probably spied the Dean making his way down the corridor behind her.
Gwen didn't turn around to face Yukki. “Welcome to my hell, Yukki. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.” she said to him. She sighed. As all the anger dissipated, Her chest ached, and she didn't understand why.

Yukki blushed as the girl said her name. Gwendolyn. Beautiful. He thought to himself. He hadn't been looking at her long before he could feel the heat rising to his face again. He smiled again, looking over her small features. He was just about to speak again when he heard the laugher behind the girl. "I know, right? How pathetic. She runs into that cute guy on purpose just to get his attention."
Yukki could feel all his muscles in his body tense up and his fists beginning to clentch around the books as anger rose up from deep inside him. He couldn't remember ever getting protective over someone other than his sister. What's going on with me? He thought, frowning. The girls continued their tuants.
Yukki couldn't make out most of it, just key words. "Like she's got a shot... 10?... nannies... get lost... play barbies." He looked down at Gwen, watching her facial expressions. He met her eyes which were filled with tears. It sent him over the edge, saying little petty things like that to someone that they knew nothing about. He was about to rush forward to set things straight with the little girls, when Gwen went forward herself.
He watched as the small frame grabbed the bigger girls by their shirts, knocking them to the ground on their knees infront of her. "Apologize!" Yukki raised an eyebrow, watching the scene. He could sense something wrong was about to happen. He frowned again, his eyes having a sense of darkness about them. "You better leave Gwendolyn the fuck alone, you bitch"
Yukki could feel his body tensing up again as he took a step forward, making eye contact with each girl. He could hear the guys behind him mocking him. "Or else what, boy? You gonna kick their ass?" He turned to glare at the boys who mocked him. Someone shoved him hard and he fell to the floor, the books scattering again. Even though he was much taller than anyone else in the school, he was skinny and muscular. Nothing to hold him up with.
He groaned pushing hiself back up to his feet as the boys laughed and walked on, telling jokes to eachother about what had just happened. Yukki looked up at Gwen as she spoke. His heart dropped with disappointment as she talked to him as if he should leave. "I... I wasn't going to.... Just forget it." He said, standing up and walking quickly down the hall into his home room, forgetting his notebook on the floor.
He couldn't get it. Some things just never change I guess He thought, sitting down at a desk in the far back corner. It wasn't even lunch time and he was already having prblems. He thought about the girl and how she looked at him and the way she stood up for herself. He shook his head, trying to erase the memory.

Gwen's sighed. She was hoping he would have said it didn't matter and stayed. She turned to see him walking away and almost almost called out to him, but he turned into her homeroom. Gwen smiled.
Gwen's two friends rushed over to her, looking shocked. “Gwen, that was amazing! Did you see the look on their faces?” Lori said, smiling. “I know. It was priceless” Jean chimed in. Gwen was only half paying attention till.. “And what jerks those senior jocks were for shoving Yukki to the ground when he tried to stick up for you, Gwen” Gwen's hand shot up and grabbed Lori's. “What happened. I didn't know about that” Both her friends jaws dropped. “Like, seriously? He totally had your back, but got jumped by the jocks. Look” she said pointing at the mess of books on the floor. Most were Gwen's, but one book was his.
Gwen knelt and picked up all the books including Yukki's It was definitely his. His name was written in neat scrips inside the cover. There was also a picture of an older Japanese girl surrounded by Japanese writing and hearts and stuff. She looked to be in her 20's. >>Is his his girlfriend?<< she asked. >>Is he into older girls?<< Her stomach cramped. She took a breath and it eased. She let her herself guess before shaking her head free of stupid speculation.
“C'mon, Gwen! We're so late!” Her friends said in unison. Lori took her hand and they pulled her along to homeroom.
The trio enter their homeroom class. The teacher tisks at them and motions for them to take their seat. Gwen stops mid step towards her assigned seat. Yukki is there in the seat to her right.
“Take your seat, Mrs Mattia. You'll notice we have a new student. You'd know that if you cared to come to class on time” He lectured. Some of the students chuckled. There were two other empty seats that belonged to the two girls who picked on her in the hall.
Gwen sighed and walked to her seat. She scribbled something into the inside cover, taking care not to overwrite anything already there. Gwn stopped at Yukki's desk and gently put the book down on it. “Thank you” She whispered and took her seat next to his.

Yukki sat down at his chair in the far back corner, keeping his head down. He sighed as the teacher nodded at him, taking note that he was there. "Hello class, we have a new comer today.. Yukki Miafuji." Yukki buried his head in his hands as everyone in the class turned to take a look at the new kid. He heard the door open, diverting everyone's attention from himself. Gwen walked in with her friends, her books held tightly in her arms. The teacher frowned at their late entrance and lectured about it before moving on, waving each student to their seat. The teacher pointed Gwen in Yukki's direction. Yukki kept his face from lighting up too much as he saw her walking toward him. "Hello again" He whispered up at her from his chair as he reached into his back pack, looking for his notebook. Not seeing it in his bag, He quickly stood up, saying fuck under his breath. Yukki? what was that I heard? Detention after school. 30 minutes. He kicked his desk in frustration. "I lost my book." He leaned down at his backpack again looking through it for the book again. He heard Gwen sit down at the desk beside him. Now I really look like a fool. He frowned getting back into his seat. Yukki looked up and noticed his book sitting at his desk. He glanced over at Gwen, nodding a thanks at her. He flipped open the cover, glancing a moment at the picture of Saraitha that he had taped on the cover. He noticed someone else's handwriting. You didn't have to stand up for me. Thank you. 984-887-6493. Let's meet up, okay? -GwenYukki stared at the little message, the teacher droning on in the background. He forgot about his detention, the boys shoving him, the horrible day that he had... A girl just gave him their number... He hadn't even done anything. He smiled at Gwen, watching her expressions carefully, like he did with Saraitha. He took in all her beautiful and cute features about her, drinking them in like honey. Gwen giggled at Yukki's little show when he thought he lost his book. He didn't even notice she'd put it on his desk when she walked by since he had his eyes on her the whole time. Gwen's smile widened. Other boys did that too, but she thought it was creepy, since they knew she was just 12. With Yukki it was different. She like that he looked at her. Her tummy did a little flutter thing just thinking about it. >>Gotta ask Lori and Jean about this<< She thought to herself. Gwen's smile disappeared at the mention of detention. She looked over at Yukki as he kicked his chair and sat down. Gwen reached over with a lightning fast reflex and nudged his book just enough that it bumped his stomach as he sat. He didn't see her do it, but he looked down to notice the book there. Gwen glanced over to see him reading the note she scribbled. Her heart almost stopped, her eyes locked on his face for a reaction.
His face smoothed as the frustration melted and then he smiled and glanced her way. Gwen returned his smile and then turned her eyes forward, looking at him sideways. She reached up at brushed her long brown hair out of her face and behind her ear for a better view. >>He smiled!! OMG!. And its so cute!<< She blushed at the thought.
Gwen thought about the picture of that woman in his book and got a sudden ache in her chest, about where her heart would be. >>I wonder who the lady in the picture is...<< Her smile softened. She pulled out a post-it note and wrote –So sorry about the detention. So my fault. I'll wait for you in the hall, k?--
Gwen glanced up at the teacher as she snapped the lead off her pencil by pressing it into the desk. She raised her hand for permission to use the sharpener and stuck the not to the side of Yukki's desk as she walked by.
On her way to the sharpener she stopped. The door was swinging open and the two girls from the hall limped in with ace bandages on their knees and sincerely pissed expressions. Gwen's smile disappeared. >> "Merda!. Sono così avvitato” (Shit!, I'm so screwed) she said to herself in her native Italian. If the nurse got involved, her parents were going to get a phone call. As if they could hear her thinking, her phone vibrated with a message. She glanced back at Yukki. No phone in his hands. Had to be a family member. No one else ever called her when she was in school. They knew it was a no-no and would get her in trouble.
Gwen sharpened her pencil slowly. Just 20 feet away the girls were talking to the teacher. She shut them out not wanting to hear what they were saying, although she could hear them as if they were standing right in front of her. “Miss Mattias” She heard the Teacher call her. Gwen pulled the pencil out of the sharpener and blew on the point. “Yes, Mr. Thompson?” She replied smoothly. “You'll be joining Mr. Miafuji this evening. Your parents have been summoned for a conference.” He announced. She glanced at him. His expression was stern and his arms were crossed at his chest. “Yes, Mr Thompson”
The teacher turned and started writing on the chalkboard.
Gwen turned to return to her seat. The girls were already seated in the front two desks and were glaring with smug smiled on their faces. Gwen knew she shouldn't. But what did it matter? She already slipped with those girls. She knew they knew something. She'd make sure they thought twice about messing with her in the future. She was already in trouble and would take her punishment.
Gwen's face took a neutral expression showing no emotion. She walked up to the desks. There was an audible “SNAP” as the pencil in Gwens hand broke into pieces. The eraser end, about an inch of pencil attached, hit the ring leader, the girl who started the whole thing, and bounced off her head. It never hit the ground. Gwen's hand flung out and caught it mid-air. She stared at the girl and gave her a “look”. The girl's smug smile disappeared as she gasped in surprise. Gwen said nothing. A quick glance at the other girl in the seat to the left and another shocked expression and she knew she'd gotten her point across. Gwen smiled inside. The meaning behind the gesture was not lost to them. Gwen tisked and walked past. Her ears told her Mr Johnson's back was still to her as he continued to write on the chalkboard.
She glanced at Yukki and shrugged her shoulders before sitting, watching him for any reaction. Had he seen? She cringed inside. She'd forgotten he was watching. There was nothing to be done about that now. Would he still smile at her?
“Guess its you and me tonight” She smiled, taking her seat.

Yukki blushed as Gwen looked up at him, clearly amused by his lack of attention. He smirked at her before flipping open his book to an empty page, pulling out a pen from his backpack. "Thank you, Gwen." He whispered before starting to write the date at the top of the page.
He finished writing his name and date. He was already bored with the class, the teacher droning on about school and the likes. He jumped as Gwen snapped her pencil on her desk. He glanced over at her raising an eyebrow. She stood up and began walking toward the sharpener, trailing his desk with her pencil, as the teacher gave her permission.
The door swung open as the two girls that Gwen knocked down walked in, limping and with icepacks wrapped around their knees. Oh boy... he thought as Gwen's face fell, Yukki knowing what she was thinking. She snapped her pencil, throwing it at the girls while the teacher's back was turned. He informed her that she would be with Yukki after school.
Yukki shook his head, keeping his eyes down at his desk, reaching into his backpack and pulling out another pencil and placing it gently on Gwen's desk. She sat down with a sigh informing him they would be together this afternoon. "Sounds like a good afternoon to me. It's a date.... I mean.... well.... yeah.." his voice trailed off, color flushing his face again.
Later That Afternoon
Yukki tapped his fingers on his desk as he looked up at the clock. The room was far too quiet and dull. There weren't many people in the room at all. A large muscular lady that looked more like a man was sitting at her desk with her feet propped up, reading a comic book. Lucky bastard He looked at the cover for a moment, realizing it was one he had already read.
He looked at the rest of the room. A grungy looking boy with black greasy hair that was drawing little patters in his hand with his pen. A preppy looking girl with pigtails and covered in pink articles of clothing. A big boy with blonde hair that had bloodshot eyes. Yukki shook his head glancing at Gwen, grinning as he tossed a balled up piece of paper with a note written in it. She was only sitting a few seats over from him.
Yukki wished she were closer so they could talk. He felt bad about what had happened but realized that it probably couldn't have been helped. "Do you want another hour, boy?" Yukki looked up at the woman who was staring him down from over her comic. He scrunched up his nose and was about to reply with a smart-ass remark, when the door slammed open.

Gwen looked over at Yukki and then inclined her head at the the ogre-lady and rolled her eyes before giggling silently. She smiled whenever she looked over and saw him smiling back. She could hear him tapping his fingers on the desk and wished he knew morse code like she did so they could communicate. It was silly. One of her girlfriends got a set of cheap walkie talkies one year when she was 8 and she memorized the morse from the sticker one day. IT wasn't on purpose. She was bored and it was there and she stared at the dots and dashes for too long. Her photographic mind simply remembered.
Gwen glanced over again just in time to see him glance at her in return. He tossed something at her and her lightning fast reflexes caught the balled up paper. She smiled and closed her fist around it to hide it from the Ogre who just happened to look up from her comic book. The teacher was too lazy to get up and take the paper. Instead she threatened Yukki with more time.
Gwen looked down at her hand in her lap and started to open the piece of paper. All she got to read was –What “is” she? The missing link?. I mean wow!. Oh, and here's my number. 984-887-0173 – before the door opened and banged on the wall due to the busted closer. She fisted the paper to read it later.
“Gwendolyn Donatello Mattias!” Mitchel all but shouted, or so it felt like to her, as he entered the room followed by Guido, his body guard\servant. Gwen's eyes widened and she physicaly cringed as She glanced sideways at Yukki and her face flushed in embarrassment. Her eyes cast down as she folded her hands in her lap, something she always did in these situations. It was as close as she could come to a “submission” pose while in human form. They were not in wolf form, but her dad was the alpha of the pack and his words carried the weight of authority.>>why must he always use my full name! We talked about this<<
“Yes, Daddy?” she replied in a small voice.
It was obvious to Gwen that he'd already spoken to the Dean, Teacher, Nurse, and probably the two skank girls parents and was royally pissed. He walked directly to stand before the teacher.
“Mr Mattias, I presume” The teacher chimed in. “That is correct, Maddam. I would like a word with my daughter in private, if you would be so kind.” He stated. “Its Misses Molotov, and no, you may not. It is against school policy. She is not to leave this room, or I until the detention is fully served” She said with an attitude.
So she was married? Gwen pittied the unlucky bastard. Probably a shotgun wedding, she thought to herself.
Gwen's father turned his gaze on her and stared. He was facing away from the students so they couldn't get a look at his facial features as he did so, but they could see the teacher, and she visibly started to sweat as the seconds ticked by and squirmed under his scrutiny. “I.. er... you see, Mr. Mattias, uh... Sir. The rules are quite c-clear.” She stumbled all over her words. Gwen's father had not said another word, yet she felt pressured and a need to explain herself.
“Ah. A pitty” was all he replied with. Mrs. Molotov seemed to loose her legs, sitting heavily in her chair which groaned in protest.
He turned around and walked towards Gwen.
The man who was her father was larger than life in his thousand dollar Armmanni suit. Metalic Black with obvious 24k gold pin-stripe. Shoes gleaming with a mirror finish, and a gold Rollex watch peeking from under well tailored cuffs. The cuff-links themselves looked like they were easily multi-karat diamonds. He turned his head slowly to take in the whole room and everyone within with his brown eyes before snorting in disgust. Her father was just like her brother in many ways. He commanded attention and respect with just his prescence. Gwen, however knew he had a soft spot hor her.
Mr Mattias whispered something to the 2nd man who was also in a suit, but with much less of the bling. The second man who'd name was obviously Guido, since it was the only audible word anyone could make out before the tones dropped to whispered, reached in his pocket and pulled something out. Guido glanced at his ipad mini, scrolled a few times, then shook his head. Yukki would later find out that what he asked the man was if anyone in the room spoke Italian, to which the man answered.
The Man, obviously Gwen's father dove into the rest of the conversation with his daughter in all Italian and whispered so softly most of the time that no one would believe that Gwen and her father could possibly even hear it themselves. No mater how much Gwen wished she couldn't hear, she heard him all too well.
The conversation was obviously one sided since Gwen merely responded with short sentences and the few times she spoke at length she was cut off and obviously scolded.
At one point Gwen was playing with something in her hand that was noticed by her father. He asked what could only have been “What's that in your hand?” as he looked down and then back up. Gwen answered and the man reached down and took the crumpled piece of paper out of her hand. Gwen did not fight this. She didn't even know what was written there, not having had the chance to look at it. Mitchell unfolded it and read the contents. He looked up sharply and his voice rose so it was audible. Gwen physically flinched for the first time. Her lips pressed into a line. Her father spoke again, bending down to be more at her level, and in a harsher tone this time. Gwen hesitated for a moment. Then turned her head slowly to look at Yukki, her cheeks coloring again.
The man followed her gaze and frowned at the boy he glared at.
He spoke harshly again, only this time it was audiable.
“He's my friend. We share home room and a few classes.” Gwen replied, glancing at Yukki
He again spoke in Italian and Gwen's brows came together as she visibly became angry. It's not like they couldn't talk to each other. It was a matter of respect and etiquette when it came to her family. She was in the wrong about the incident, there was no denying that. She'd take her lumps, but she wasn't about to let her father steam-roll her when it came to her precious few friends.
“Thats when we were discussing “me”, Daddy.” She stated. “Now we're talking about him. It's rude to speak about someone when they are in the same room in a language they cannot understand” She said matter of factly. She didn't know where she'd gotten the bravado to stand up to her father. It just happened.
Her father's brows came together in anger in return and spoke harsher still. Gwen paled.
“He has a name. It's Yukki. Could you please stop calling him “that boy”.”
The words left her lips before she could stop them. Almost like a reflex.
Her father straightened and sighed.
“We'll continue this conversation at home, young lady.” He said in a huff. He turned and inclined his head at the teacher and walked towards the door. He pulled out his own cell phone and put it to his ear. All that anyone understood was “Leonardo” before the conversation continued in Italian and faded as the man and his body guard walked out the door and down the hall.
Gwen sat motionless. Her eyes straight ahead and unmoving. It didn't even look like she was breathing.

Yukki interlaced his fingers together, resting his hands on the desk. He was bored out of his mind just sitting in a bare room for what felt like hours. The looked over at Gwen again as she read his little message that he had thrown at her. He smiled in return as her eyes scanned over it. She was about to get to the end of the message, he could tell. His face flushed with color. Before she could get to the part he really wanted her to see, the door burst open.
Yukki jummped up too fast, knocking over his desk and chair, the hairs on his neck standing on end. The hell? His heart was racing with excitement as the silence-breaker threw him off guard. Yukki's eyebrow raised as a tall dark-looking man walked through the doorway. The man called Gwen's full name out in a stern tone. That must be her dad... he's kinda... scary
Yukki glanced over at Gwen as she looked down at her desk, seemingly giving her father all the control and power he ever wanted over the situation. He addressed the hideous large woman that sat at the desk. Her facial features remained indifferent as she continued reading her comic. She didn't even look up from her book as Gwen's father stood before her.
After only a few seconds of chit-chat, Mr. Mattias turned and walked toward Gwen as the teacher's face drained of all its color. The man appeared to be so rich. He not only looked it, but smelled it. Yukki stooped down to pick up his desk and chair as the man walked by. He had a few inches on Yukki, but they were almost eye level, which calmed his nerves a little. Another large man in a suit walked through the door, Mr. Mattias whispering a few things to him.
Yukki sat down at his now upright desk, watching Gwen's reactions to her father being in the room. She seemed completely different. Like all the life of her had left as if her father had sucked it out of her. Her full attention on him. Yukki frowned as Gwen and her father started a brisk coversation in a forign tongue. The words rolled off their lips gracefully and sounded beautiful. He was frustrated that he couldn't tell what they were talking about.
Yukki inhaled quickly as Gwen's dad grabbed the note from her hand and glanced over it. His face growing hard and his lips pressed in a line. Fuck! I'm screwed!! Yukki was panicing in his head. Her dad looked at Yukki in dissaproval. Gwen stood up for him, explaining that she and Yukki were friends.
Gwen and her dad seemed to get in another argument, this time Gwen was saying more, it wasn't a one-way conviction. She told her father Yukki's name and got onto him for talking so Yukki couldn't understand the conversation. Her father sighed before dropping it and saying that it would be brought back up later, in the safety of their home.
Yukki stood up as soon as Gwen's father left. The teacher had gone back to reading comics, her hands shaking a little. He walked over to Gwen, the other kids in the room not paying attention anymore to what was going on. Yukki placed a hand on Gwen's shoulder, looking down at her. He felt sorry that she had gotten in trouble for something that wasn't really her fault. He dropped down to his knees beside her desk and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight hug. "I'm sorry." He whispered, sighing.

>What the hell just happened?< Gwen asked herself. It wasn't that she didn't remember. She was there. It happened to her. It was the realization that she'd made an already bad situation worse by causing a scene with her father that had her stumped. Gwen knew her father was scary to everyone else, but they didn't know him like she did. She was well aware that if she was anyone other than his precious little girl, things would have gone very badly for her. No one, and I mean No One spoke like that to her father. To humiliate him was to dare the grim reaper himself to prove he was indeed the reaper. She would have to apologize. And it would need to be an academy award performance.
Gwendolyn just couldn't help herself when it came to Yukki. She couldn't keep quiet. What was it that made him special to her?. She didn't even know him. But she wanted to know him more than anything. Would he even want to be her friend now?.. >And he used my middle name!! Ugh!. Yukki's probably laughing at me right now< she agonized to herself. >How humiliating.<
Warm arms surrounded Gwendolyn and she blinked, coming back from her thoughts. She accepted the hug and her lips curled up into a smile. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do in return. Did she hug him back? She just didn't know what to do.. This wasn't like her father or brothers. Those thoughts and more crossed her mind, but in the end she decided to just enjoy the moment. She closed her eyes and leaned her cheek on his head, and inhaled. The residual smell of masculine cologne tickled her nose. The residual shampoo and conditioner mixed in yet was pleasant. Deeper was the scent of vampiric incense. Just a hint of it under his human scent. A flash of memory of the vampire in the restaurant with guns blazing crossed her mind. She pushed it away. There was no way Yukki had anything to do with that.
“I'm okay... really” She said after a moment.
“Back to your seat Miafuji!” The teacher ordered from behind her comic book.
“Better do what Sir-cumference over there wants.” Gwen whispered sarcasm while rolling her eyes. “I won't have an underage child whoring herself out to every tom dick and harry on my watch” Molotov grumbled loud enough for everyone to hear. Gwen had to bite her tung not to shout out in protest. She gripped the desk as the disciplinarian ruffled the comic book with a flemy laugh and cough. It was obvious to Gwen she was a heavy smoker. The other students in the class started laughing as well. Gwen set her jaw and fumed. >How dare that fat cow talk to me that way< she fumed to herself. Her ears burned before she could reign in her external anger. She saw Yukki about to yell a retort in her defense, but she didn't want to spend another second more there than she had to. If he said anything it would lengthen his time at the least.
Gwen reached out lightning quick and grabbed Yukkis hand, giving it a squeeze. She shook her head “no” just before he let fly. No, there would be no need for that. She would handle this the Mattias way.
Gwen pulled out her phone and sent a text to their law firm. The Mattias had a network of firms on retainer and were on call 24 hour. She slid her phone back into her bag. She'd been specific in her request. The firm was to fax an intent to sue letter to the school's main office with the fat cow's name on it as well as the school. She'd fill them in later. She only said that it should have something to do with child endangerment and harassment. She could always add other things like defamation of character and whatever else the lawyers could dream up later.
Barely a minute ticked by and the school intercom buzzed. Molotov sighed and walked over to the phone. She picked up and said “Yes?..” And the rest was all body language an chocked stuttered replies of “But... I understand.... I wouldn't... But I never... No, of course not.. B-But what about the union?.. But I've been here twenty-five years”. Was the sum of her responses. Visually she blanched and paled numerous times. Her eyes widened at least once, and her eyes darted to Gwen at least twice as sweat formed on her forehead.
Gwen just sat with perfect posture. Eyes straight ahead and a smug smile on her face. Her hands folded on the desk top. When the phone conversation ceased, Molotov slowly walked back to her chair. She picked up her comic book with a shaking hand put it in front of her face.
Gwen giggled as she spoke up. “Excuse me, Mrs. Molotov?” “Y- yes, Miss Mattias” she replied, her voice shaky. “I'm not here on detention. I was just here while my father spoke to my teachers. So I'll be going now, k?” “Yes. O-Of course.” She said, not putting down her comic book. Gwen stood and slung her bag on her shoulder. “Oh, and Yukki's my ride, so he'll be coming with me” “I... Yes, of course. Mr. Miafuji. You're free to go.” The disciplinarian said, never putting the book down. She refused to look at either of them.
Gwen giggled walking the few steps to Yukki's desk and held her hand out to him. “Lets blow this popsicle stand.” The other students laughed. The teacher was curiously silent.

Yukki sighed as he stood from his extended hug with Gwen. He narrowed his eyes at the teacher as he walked in front of her desk. He heard the remark coming from her lips and he snapped. "Take that back, you bitch." He shouted, slamming his fist down on her desk, infuriated that yet another person was picking on his hardcore crush. Or so he thought. Before he had even made a move to hit the desk or let a shout escape his voice, Gwen's hand was there, on his, giving him a gentle squeeze, telling him no. Yukki let out a growl and a hiss from between his teeth toward the teacher before sitting down at his desk, his long legs sticking way out from beneath the small lap-sized table.
Yukki crossed his arms and sighed, making a face at Gwen as he saw her slide her phone cautiously away. Gwendolyn, please don't get in trouble my love. He thought quietly in her defense. A loud buzzing nose snapped him away from his thoughts as the phone on the wall behind the teacher's desk began to ring. He looked at the teacher as she stood and answered the phone. His puzzled look was cured as he looked over to Gwen again as she made herself appear innocent. A smile crept across his lips as the teacher stuttered all over the place. It was obvious that this was because of something Gwen had done. Was this it? Their free ticket out?
Yukki fist pumped as the teacher hung up the phone and told him and Gwen could leave. He stood up, quickly swinging his backpack over one shoulder. He paused by the teacher's desk and slowly walked out of the room breaking the silence with a smart-ass remark, "straight to jail, do not pass go, do not collect two-hundred dollars." The rest of the class room irrupted in laughter before Yukki exited the room.
"That was freakin' awesome!! Gwen!! What did you do to pull that one off?" Yukki asked, his eyes beaming with excitement as they raced down the halls of the school. Once they broke through the last double doors, the sunlight blinding them, he held a hand out to Gwen. "I don't exactly have a car, but I don't live too far from here, or, would you, uh... You wouldn't happen to want to get some ice-cream with me, would you?" He asked, smiling down and the girl beside him. He had never asked someone out before, his sister was the closest person to a relationship he had. His thoughts flashed for a moment back to his sister. Would she be jealous? He somehow knew that Sara wouldn't go for something like that. His stomach twisted as he waited for a reply. "Be gentle, I'm new at this." He whispered under his breath, expecting a 'no'.

Molotov visibly paled at Yukki's words as they walked past. While she was irritated and insulted at the comment, Gwen decided that she had gotten her point across and there was no need for the woman to loose her job. She really didn't know that teacher. Besides, there was that voice in the back of her mind that kept saying 'With great power comes great responsibility' and while she knew that her father had used those words well before the old guy in the spider man movie, she couldn't help but visualize the old guy instead, and so she giggled as she texted instructions to her legal team to drop the suit tomorrow. Yukki glanced at her and expressed his pleasure, but even as she giggled, she worried. What must he be thinking of her? First she looses her temper at school, Then her father shows up with his bodyguard, and finally the trick with the teacher. So much for first impressions... “Just called in a favor” She answered vaguely. When he didn't pursue the matter she was glad for the reprieve.
Pushing past the glass doors to the front of the building, Gwendolyn stopped and stared at Yukki's outstretched hand. She'd been mentally preparing herself for his rejection, seeing him just say 'good bye' like he would to any other student and walking away from the freak show that was her life. Instead, He was talking about ice cream?. 'Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god' she mentally repeated over and over. Her heart picked up pace to a gallop as she reached out her own hand and took his. 'I think he just asked me out.' She thought to herself. This would be her first date ever. She wanted to look up into his dark eyes and accept, but she couldn't. She didn't have to glance up to look past Yukki to know that there was a limo there waiting for her. Not only was it part of her agreement for attending this public school because of the assassination attempt, but her father would want her to come right home for their “talk”.
His next words almost had her cringe openly. 'Be Gentle, I'm new at this' he said, and her heart almost stopped. If she turned him down, even though her hands were tied, he would be disappointed. She knew, cause she could picture herself in his place and what it would look and feel like to be told “I can't. Maybe some other time?”. She couldn't invite him into the limo. The driver would not allow it. She weighed her options. Turn him down and go home to the lecture she's earned or go with Yukki and experience her firs date ever and die happy, for daddy would surely kill her. Gwen sighed. “I'm new at this too, Yukki. You're the first boy to ever ask me out” She said, her eyes still staring at her hand in his. She had to be up front. Starting a relationship with lies was never a good thing. Even Gwen, with no experience whatsoever of her own, knew that.
She made up her mind. There was no way that after a day like today she was going to just walk away and leave things in limbo. Too much had happened. She needed a chance to explain away the madness. She was so glad he hadn't walked away yet. Most people kept their distance after just the first thing. He was special somehow. Not like the others. More tolerant and understanding. She looked up into his dark eyes and beamed. She flashed her thousand watt smile and said. “Sure, Yukki. Ice cream sounds fun” as she gave his hand a squeeze. Her smile wavered slightly at she added: “We should talk though. I live a very complicated life, and I think you should know what you might be getting yourself into.” She said and her eyes flicked to the limo driver who frowned and shook his head 'no' as he pulled out his phone. No doubt he was going to report what he was witnessing and hearing. Gwen sighed, her attention back to Yukki. "That guy by the limo is an employee of the family. He'll most likely follow us wherever we go.” She blushed in embarrassment. “I'll explain as best I can over ice-cream if you still want to go”. She said, almost pleading. There was just one more thing she could possibly do and fear of Yukki deciding to walk away from the creepy situation made her desperate. “I like you. Please give me a chance to explain” She looked away. Her hand in his. Hoping he wouldn't pull it away.

Yukki blushed as Gwen explained that this was her first time too. "You weren't supposed to hear that." he said, quietly, flushing an even darker shade of red. His stomach grew tighter as the small girl took his hand. He almost felt like apologizing for how clammy he thought his hand was. This... this is going good.. We're making progress. This is it. His thoughts raced. He almost wasn't making sense in his own head. He felt his stomach leap into his mouth as Gwen looked questioningly at the limo out in front of the school. The man sitting behind the wheel looked intimidating glancing toward Yukki and Gwen. "You don't have to go with him, Gwen. We won't be out long, and if he has a problem with it, he can talk to me." he buffed out his chest, trying to make himself look bigger and stronger.
Yukki's stomach eased back down to its rightful place as his stress level dropped with Gwen's smile. He nodded as she mentioned walking. "I don't mind walking." He smiled reassuringly. Yukki eagerly jumped down the stairs waiting for Gwen to follow as he gave it a gentle squeeze. "Gwen, I really like you too. Of course I still want ice-cream. Let's go!!" He smiled up at her from a few stairs below. He took a few more steps bringing Gwen with him. "I know this really great parlor." He flashed a quick smile back at Gwen as they walked away from the school.
Cheesecake ice-cream with cookie dough and strawberries? the lady behind the counter called out. "That sounds like me." Yukki smiled, retrieving his ice-cream cone from the lady. He tossed a few dollars on the counter nodding at the lady before licking his ice-cream followed by a moan of appreciation for the chilled cream. He waited for Gwen to get her ice-cream, already having paid for it secretly.

When they reached the ice cream parlor, she was not surprised. There were just a few of these in town and this was the best of the bunch. Her brothers had brought her there at one time or another over the years, usually at her request, to get ice cream. The owner's name was Angie. A middle aged full figured woman from the states and had brought the American famous “Cold Stone Creamery” with her. She'd moved to England following her husband who was in the British royal air force years back, but was widowed when he died in an accident involving a faulty jet engine. She liked to talk, so anyone who frequented the place knew all about her. Of course, it was single men who attracted her attention. And all of Gwen's brothers were much older to the point that Leon was always being mistaken for being her uncle.
Reaching the counter the woman turned around. “Welcome to.... Gwendonlyn?. My god, you've grown. Has it been six months since I last saw you?” She asked, glancing at the wall behind her where there was a calendar. “Where's that smooth talker handsome brother of yours? I haven't seen him in a while. Either.” Angie asked, looking around. Her attention returned to Gwen in time to see her blush and then she noticed her hand intertwined with the tall Japanese boy's hand and her smile was replaced with a frown for a moment before she recovered. Gwen's Training kicked in and she knew from that gesture and other body language that the woman's motherly side had judged Yukki as a too old for Gwen, High School student. She knew Gwen to be just 12 and still in middle school. Her eyebrows went up in question seeing Gwen is a High School uniform herself. Her mouth slightly opened with questions that wanted to be asked, but she said not a word. It wasn't her place, after all. Gwen was glad she knew her place.
When Yukki looked at Gwen, She just shrugged her shoulders and smiled. His attention returned to Angie as she addressed him. “Well, Young man” she said turning her attention to Yukki. She paused for a moment. Gwen could tell that she had allot she wanted to say. Angie seemed to sigh, as if deciding to keep her nose out of it before her smile returned. “Welcome back to Stone Cold. What can I get for you today?"
They chose a booth by the window once Gwen received her double scoop of pralines & cream cone, they sat down to enjoy their treats. “Don't mind her. She has a thing for my brother Leon” she said with a giggle.
Gwendolyn was all smiles as she dove into her life. She paused to let Yukki tell of his own life, but they both seemed to no ask questions and just talked or listened. She told him about being Italian and coming from a wealthy family who was in the international arms manufacturing business. She spoke of her three older brothers briefly, not wanting to get into detail about them. She explained away her father as being a very important and powerful man with ties to many politicos, domestic and foreign governments. She half-lied about the idiot limo driver, who's name she didn't know, that was at this very moment standing across the street doing a piss poor job of being inconspicuous. He was new and inexperienced. He'd been thrown into the “bodyguard” role before he'd been properly trained, which Gwen would be lectured about later. It was only a mater of time before he was relieved by a seasoned veteran. Gwen hoped it was Lucia, Guido or Carmella. Gwen told Yukki that her father Mitchell was paranoid and over-protective about her. Not a total lie. But she couldn't be expected to tell him about the attempt on her life. Papa had forbidden it. She would have to, at some point. She knew that and there was an ache at the bottom of her heart when she thought about the “what if” of another attempt while Yukki was with her. Or what if they went after him to get to her? She mentally shook her head to clear away that line of thinking.
There was no point in worrying. She would have to as Papa's permission. He would insist on a full background check on Yukki's whole family, thats if he even allowed her to date him. Gwen's smile wavered at that thought. She'd been looking at his gorgeous eyes the whole time, but now looked away, her smile disappearing completely. She'd come to the end. There was just one more thing she had to clear up, and her stomach clenched.
“Yukki?” She asked, reaching across the table for his hand. She laid it on the table palm up, knowing he would place his in hers. It trembled slightly as it closed to encompass his, even as her forehead creased in worry. “Those girls in the hallway earlier today....” She said, her other hand sliding across the table to join the first in holding his. She had no idea where to begin. The pressure in her chest tightened. “I'm smarter than kids my age, and like, my classes were not challenging enough so that I was just bored and loosing interest and stuff, you know?...” She stumbled over her words, unable to find a way to say anything properly. “My teachers worried and they thought it best if I was skipped ahead to where I would be on more equal footing” She continued, even though she knew she was probably just confusing him. She sighed, deciding that being blunt was the only way. “I'm twelve” She finally blurted out, flushing in embarrassment. Her hands had gone cold as she waited for his reaction. “Please be gentle” she whispered his own words from earlier at him. Her brown orbs came up to meet his gaze. She blanked her mind. She didn't want to risk involuntarily analyzing anything. She'd already committed to never doing that to him. She didn't want to know anything he was not willing to tell her himself. If he lied or was unfaithful she would find out like a normal girl.
