Carly watched the range of emotions that crossed Gwen's features as she finished her story. From the sounds of it, the poor pup had been to hell and back with all the things she had to deal with. Goodness knows that Carly would have been shaken up to say the least of things if her own brother had been shot. At least the wolf-pup's brother was alright, that was something good that had come out of this whole mess. Ugh...this was going to be hard to explain to the director when Carly had to give a report about what other information she had gotten from Gwen. Ah well, she'd cross that bridge when she came to it, for the time being however they still had to find this friend of Gwen's and see how she was recovering. With any luck, Carly would be able to explain the situation and they would be able to keep the wolf-girl's guardian up to date...that was, if Gwen's guardian was in any condition to talk...
Gwen's comment on her car brought a small smile to the vampiress' features. "Thanks hun',"Carly replied easily, laughing softly as she started to walk towards the hospital,"My fiance actually got it for me, thought it'd make it easier for me to get to work with it,"she explained briefly before holding the door open for Gwen to enter the hospital. The door closed with a soft click behind them and the sterile scent that was unique to hospitals assailed the vampiress. Carly had always hated that scent and with her heightened senses, it was all the vampiress could do to keep from gagging at the stench. Too bad they weren't allowed to spray perfume...though that would only mask the stench briefly before mixing with it... Ugh...hopefully they would be able to get out of this place sooner rather than later...
The feeling of Gwen's hand reaching for hers was unexpected to say the least but Carly didn't once hesitate in taking the wolf pup's hand. She had promised to help the girl after all and goodness knows Gwen had been through more than enough already. The least the vampiress could do was offer what little comfort and encouragement she could to the obviously distraught girl at her side. After a few inquiries as to where the girl's guardian, Carmela apparently, was located they found the room with little trouble. Footsteps echoed down the hallway as muttered voices of doctors reached the vampiress' ears. Combined with the hustle and bustle of the various nurses, it was surprising just how loud hospitals were when they were supposed to be relaxing for the patients in order to help them recover. Honestly, would it kill people to add in some noise cancelling walls, Carly could swear she could hear everything around her in the adjacent rooms and it was giving her a headache to say the least.
Returning her attention to Gwen, the vampiress tried to block out the various sounds she was hearing to try and say something...anything to hopefully make the wolf-pup feel better. It was obvious just by Gwen's body language that she wasn't remotely close to being OK, a fact which was only supported by the the wolf-girl's tightened grip on her hand when they finally did reach Carmela's room. All it took was a quick display of Carly's credentials to gain access to Carmela's room and all that was between them and a bittersweet reunion was a door. Red eyes looked into amber ones as the vampiress felt Gwen's hesitation and smiled encouragingly at the girl before it seemed Gwen had calmed herself and opened the door to see what the status of Carmela was after all this time.
Carmela's state appeared to be worse than Carly had initially thought. Apparently Gwen's guardian had gotten the brunt of the impact from the bomb...how she had managed to survive, even the doctors were mystified about. After the explanation Gwen had given however, Carly knew better; Carmela, like Gwen, was a werewolf and thus was able to withstand more abuse than any human would have been able to. With this in mind, it was possible that Carmela was simply feigning injury but then again the vampiress would know more once they started talking to Gwen's guardian. The tears that fell from Gwen's eyes were understandable given all that the wolf-pup had just been through, though Carmela's reaction left much to be desired. Judging by the older werewolf's reaction, she had not been expecting a vampire to walk into the room as was evident by the angry growl. Great, apparently this wasn't going to be just another happy reunion after all...this day was just getting better and better...
Once Carmela pulled the sheets off and told Gwen to come to her, Carly was on edge. This other werewolf perceived her as a threat and like hell she was going to let some werewolf get the best of her. No sooner had Gwen left her side and approached Carmela that Carly moved to avoid Carmela's attack. The vampiress' movements were swift, and as fluid as water itself as she moved closer to Carmela, aiming to grab her shoulder and twist her bad arm behind her back, effectively preventing any further movement. "I wouldn't suggest trying that again, hun',"Carly said quietly lest her voice be overheard by the guards,"I'm the only one on your side right now... Now, I'm going to let go, and you're going to sit back down and let Gwen explain what happened, understand."she continued in a stern tone, not allowing any room for argument. Carly's words were a command and unless Carmela obeyed, well...there were other ways to deal with a rogue werewolf. Carly just hoped it wouldn't have to come to that but the vampiress wasn't about to let go unless and until Carmela agreed to do what she had so kindly asked of her.

No sooner did Carmela swing her young master to the safety of the bed behind her, She went on the offensive. Her eyes never left the vampire and she saw Carly move forward in reaction to Carmela's threat. Seeing her enemy in motion saved Carmela the trouble of lunging. The Were's legs spread apart as she bent her knees to crouch. Carmela may be injured, but she was an "A" list bodyguard with over a hundred years of experience and training. She knew a half dozen martial arts, and held 5th dan or greater in all of them. Her favorite by far was Judo, and watching the vampire approach made Carmela smirk as Carly reached for her shoulder and arm. She would let the vampire put her filthy hands on her and she would roll with the motion, grab hold, and put that bitch flat on her face. This would give Carmela the precious seconds she needed to shape-shift and tear the blood-sucker's neck out. Carmela never thought she would ever be happy to have a flimsy hospital gown on. It would save her the usual pain of tearing through clothing as she transformed.
So focused was Carmela that she vaguely heard Gwen call her name. What she did hear loud and clear were the words "Stand down". It was a desperate plea from her young master, but why would her ward want her to stop? Was Gwen not herself? Weres were not susceptible to Vampire mind control. But Gwen was still a pup... Had she been bitten? It was the only way it might work on a young were for a short time. Carmela was sure she didn't see the bite marks. The hesitation in that fraction of a second of confusion was all her enemy needed to foil Carmela's counter attack. Carly made contact with Carmela. It would now cost her the use of the arm if she was to take the vampire down. Could she afford the broken arm? There was still Gwen's command to stand down.... She had to make a decision. The fact that Carly let Gwen go to Carmela was the deciding factor. She wagered that Gwen was indeed herself. She would have to let this play out and pray she was right. If not.....
Carmela suppressed a counter move and let Carly get behind her. A pained grunt left her lips as the arm was wrenched up. She couldn't help the pissed-off expression on her face at the demands made the vamp, even as she winced in pain. "Don't flatter yourself vampire. You're still alive. That and the fact that Gwendolyn has ordered me to stand down should be proof enough that I will yield for now." Carmela ignored any retort the vampire made and turned her head to face Gwen as she shook her arm out after being released. "Explain.".
Gwendolyn eased off the bed and embraced her friend. Carmela was as close to family as a friend could get. And not just because she was accepted into the pack by her father. "Please don't be angry with me, Carmela. I am so sorry. This is all my fault. Don't hate me. I could never forgive myself if I lost you. If only I listened.... I am just so happy you are well." Gwendolyn rambled.
"Nonsense child. I could never hate you. And nothing is your fault. None of us could have imagined a plot of this complexity and magnitude. We were all caught with our pants down, so to speak." She said in a soothing tone. The anger melted off her facial features. She smiled as she peeled Gwen away and put her hand on the child's chin and tilted her head up to look into her eyes. "Now, child. Back to business."
'Back to business' Gwen repeated in her mind. It was Carmela's way of reminding Gwendolyn she was a Mattias and should start to act the part. Gwen sobered up rather quickly. She wiped at her eyes and nodded.
"I've been interrogated non-stop since the moment I regained consciousness. Almost 36 hours. The bastards did not even have the decency to provide me with a proper meal." Gwen started. Carmela's hands on both her shoulders made her pause. The blond knelt before Gwen. She looked into her eyes, then put two fingers on her neck to feel her pulse and she counted seconds in her mind. Gwen smiled realizing Carmela was checking her vitals. "Relax Carmela. I am well. Thanks to Detective Carly Evans." Gwen said, turning her head and nodding to Carly. "Carly noticed I was not being treated well and brought me the most wonderful meal. And unlike those human morons, she believed in me. We had a little miss-understanding at first, but its all worked out."
Carmela smiled and stood. "Your father?" Carmela asked. Gwen knew she was asking if the family had been updated. "No. I want to handle this. I won't go home like some whipped puppy with my tail between my legs." She nodded again and turned to address Carly, but Gwendolyn reached out for her hand making Carmela pause and glance at Gwen. "I trust her" was all Gwen said. Carmela nodded. "Full disclosure?" She asked Gwen and received a smile and a nod. This told Carmela that Gwen had told her everything. Carmela sighed and went about what she was about to do. Gwendolyn trusted the vampireress. This was in a way, a command. It told Carmela that the detective had her confidence, so no matter what Carmela's personal feelings were, she must now treat the vamp as an ally. Not that Carmela would let her guard down. It was her duty to inform Gwen of any reason Carmela may discover that may change the current trusted status. Carmela would have to cooperate fully with this new ally.
Her hand came up to offer a hand shake. "My apologies detective for my actions earlier. You know the details about why I reacted hastily. Surely you understand. It was nothing personal." Carmela said. "And thank you. For looking after milady in my absence. I am in your debt." She offered.

At Carmela's reply, Carly was half tempted to break the werewolf's arm right then and there just to prove that she wasn't as weak as Carmela so obviously thought she was. Red eyes narrowed at the obvious insult and if it wasn't for the fact that Gwen was still in the room, Carly might have done just that. Instead, the vampiress simply tightened her grip on Carmela more than was necessary before releasing her, none too pleased at the turn of events. Had Carly not already given her word to Gwen that she would help, the vampiress might not have been so forgiving. Didn't that damn werewolf know that Carly was the only person willing to hear them out? If she hadn't stepped in, no doubt Gwen would still be in that interrogation room based on some half-assed terrorist claim.
Seeing Gwen hug Carmela thereafter, calmed Carly somewhat though the vampiress never once dropped her guard. Hopefully the wolf-pup would be able to talk some sense into the older werewolf and they would be able to get out of this disgusting hospital. Ugh...how could humans stand this ridiculous stench anyway...if she had to stay in this hospital for much longer, Carly swore she was going to be sick. With any luck Gwen's explanation would be enough to keep Carmela from attacking her again. Sigh...how did she manage to get herself wrapped up in this mess anyway. Really, it seemed like Gwen was just a magnet for trouble for whatever reason especially after not one, but two assassination attempts. One attempt apparently wasn't enough because the targets were both still alive and well even after the second try at fixing the problem, or so it seemed. One thing was for sure however, if they had tried twice already the culprits would surely try again. Carly needed to get Gwen to safety, and quickly before the attackers tried to do anything else.
As Gwen explained the situation to Carmela, Carly took in every word and minor detail. Whoever Gwen was, she was important enough to have a bodyguard with her and carried herself much like a professional would. For a little girl, she had handled herself surprisingly well despite the obvious strain being interrogated had to put on her. Whatever Gwen was in the middle of, it was clear that she had been trained in some manner, though what she had been trained in or by whom remained to be seen. Those answers would come in time but right now they needed to concentrate on getting out of this blasted hospital. Thankfully it seemed that Gwen's explanation was enough for Carmela though whomever the wolf-pup's father was had to be someone of importance...perhaps that was why Gwen was being targeted. They could use the daughter as bait to lure the father out which, in all likelihood, could be the culprit's true target.
After Carmela stood and turned around once again, Carly tensed slightly, ready for anything. The werewolf wasn't going to get another chance at a surprise attack again, at least not if Carly had anything to say about it. Thankfully Carmela didn't seem ready to attack again and Carly relaxed again, shaking the hand that was offered to her. The apology drew a rather smug smile from the vampiress as Carmela explained her situation. Well then, it was a good thing that the older werewolf didn't know that Carly had been just about ready to kill Gwen after a 'misunderstanding' as the wolf-pup had so aptly put it. "Of course I understand, and you're welcome. I'm sorry that my coworkers are idiots and wasted so much time already. Now, why don't we get out of this blasted hospital and somewhere safe... Although...it might be...difficult if you suddenly have a mended arm, Carmela,"Carly replied kindly, frowning slightly as she gestured to Carmela's now mended arm,"Do you have any suggestions? I would prefer to take both you and Gwen out of here today but..."Carly continued, trailing off slightly, mind racing as she tried to think of a solution to their current predicament.

Carmela studied Carly as the vampiress spoke. She further relaxed after her preliminary analyses of Carly. The detectives voice and body language rang of truth and genuine concern. Carly'd gotten Gwendolyn away from inept officials and now offered Carmela the same protection. In the back of her mind, Carmela scoffed at the offer. She was more than perfectly capable of protecting Gwendolyn and to imply otherwise was a slap in the face, as far as she was concerned. Her personal feelings aside, Carmela was a professional. She weighed all the variables as her eyes turned to the ruined remains of her casts. Carly was not just a cop, but detective who obviously had weight behind her badge. She was able to take her young master into her personal custody, and if not for misconception a minute ago, would have been able to walk Carmela herself out of the hospital with no entourage of idiots. Impressive. Not too shabby for a vampire Carmela couldn't help but acknowledge.
"Yes, Detective. I see how this could be problematic. However, I believe I have a solution. If you'll excuse the reference, I think we can McGyver our way out of this one." Carmela said with a smirk before kneeling down to pick up the remains of the body and arm casts. "You see, they don't use plaster any more. The tears were clean and the adhesive is water soluble." Carmela further explained standing only to turn on her heel and disappear into the bathroom. "The key is hot water" Carmela's voice could be heard over the sound of running water. "Detective?. Your assistance would be appreciated."
Meanwhile, Gwendolyn was lost in her thoughts. She was unusually quiet while the ladies talked as she reflected upon everything that transpired since the plane landed. While she was no longer crying, she could not find it in herself to smile. It seemed that at every turn she was putting herself and people she cared about in harms way. First Leonardo got shot, now Carmela had been hurt, and a man died in her stead at the airport. Did he have a wife?... Children?. How many lives had she destroyed. Not even her father was sure if she or her brother were the actually the target before. Now it was quite clear. But why? She asked herself. She was just twelve years old, after all. Who's cheerios could she have possibly have pissed in to warrant a death sentence? Who would be next to be hurt.... Yukki?
Gwendolyn's face blanched of color as fear gripped her. The Miafuji's... They were defenseless. Sara was a vampire and all, but what about Yukki? She had to get him to safety. Gwen's hand jerked to reach for her purse. She looked terrified as she frantically fished for her phone. Her hands grasped the device and were shaking as she pulled it from her purse and powered it up. She held the device in front of her and started dialing numbers. Just before she pressed send, she stopped. What the hell was she supposed to say to him? How could she possibly explain. And how, exactly, was she to protect them. It all came back to Mitchel. Her father would have to be told... No! she shouted in her mind, putting an end to that thought. She couldn't go to him. Mitchel would recall her immediately back to Britain. Once he found out waht happened he would pull her out of school and confine her to the mansion. And what of Yukki? She could almost hear Mitchel's voice say: "It would be best if you broke off relations with the boy, Gwendolyn." and her heart sank. No. There has to be another way She pondered, only to be distracted.
Her iphone chimed the trademark "Kawabunga, dude" TMNT announcement of new media messages and she noticed there were a few unread text messages on her desktop. They could have been from any time after the incident on the airplane. Gwen just got her phone back, but had not powered it on till now. She pressed the newest one that was from Saraitha's cell. The time stamp was just minutes ago. Gwendolyn's eyes widened and her breath caught as she stared at a picture of an unconscious Saraitha Miafuji. We have your boyfriend's mother. She is unharmed for now. How long that remains the case depends on you. We will trade her for you. Come to the international shipping terminal. Dock 12. One day from today at midnight. Come alone. Gwen bolted upright and froze Its too late was the last thought through her mind before it seized and blanked. She'd gone into shock.
Carmela knew the torso cast was a loss. It was too heavy to remain in place under the strain of motion. She already filled the detective in on her plan as they worked on the cast for her arm. There was a wheelchair in the closet. They would have to hope that her gown that would be covering the cast anyway would be enough to fool them. If she was asked to stand, it would be over. Carmela would sit in the chair and be wheeled out. The arm and collar sections of the cast came together nicely and, would seemingly be in place, and as long at Carmela did not get jarred or otherwise move, it should hold.
Carmela exited the bathroom in the wheelchair with Carly pushing from behind. She gasped at the state of Gwendolyn. She looked like death and was staring off at nothing. "Gwendolyn! What is wrong, child?" She asked, but there was nothing else she could do. To jump out of the wheelchair and go to her would ruin their hard work and only chance at getting out. The nurses were due soon. They had to be gone before the nurses arrived and discovered Carmela's miraculous recovery. "Carly...." She exclaimed in a plea for the detective to intervene on her behalf.
Not responsive at first, Gwen finally blinked. She tensed rigidly and glanced around as if waking from a trance. "We have to go. We have to go now!. Please...." Gwen pleaded in a whimper. She sobbed while shaking loose of any hold on her. The phone slipped from the withe knuckled grip of her hand and clattered to the floor.

Even as Carly tried to think of a solution to Carmela's unexplained recovery, it seemed the elder werewolf had already thought of something. Listening to the explanation, Carly nodded, of course the solution had been staring her in the face. Though considering the vampiress usually avoided hospitals, she couldn't have known that they had changed how they place casts on a patients. "Of course,"Carly replied as she followed Carmela to the bathroom. It was a simple matter to get the cast back in place and after a few moments it appeared as if nothing had happened to the cast in the first place. Really, it was lucky that hot water helped to glue the cast into place really else Carly might have had to break the arm all over again. Considering this was Gwen's close friend, if the reunion moments before was anything to judge by, that would hardly be advisable, especially if she wanted Carmela to be her ally.
After the arm was recasted, Carly stared at the shreds of what remained of the torso cast before smirking in amusement,"Ya eager to get out or something?"she teased, holding up a remnant of the cast before shaking her head,"I don't think we can salvage this but maybe if we just kinda piece it together it might work. Besides, it's a rule or something to wheel patients out of the hospital, especially those that are...were in your condition. We probably won't have anything to worry about," she continued before Carmela agreed and explained the other aspects of her plan. It seemed simple enough, and Carly could see to it that Carmela didn't have to stand, or be searched for that matter, so they could exit the hospital unhindered.
Things seemed to be going according to plan...that is until they stepped out of the bathroom to see Gwen just staring at nothing, looking as if she'd seen a ghost. What the hell had happened...hell, they hadn't been gone that long. It was then that the vampiress remembered hearing the chime before while they were still working on mending the cast. Dammit why did the girl have to go and answer her phone of all things. Idiot girl...didn't she know that the people who tried to kill her could be tracking the phone's signal. Walking towards Gwen even as she started sobbing all over again, Carly knelt in front of Gwen and glanced briefly at the phone and the picture still on the screen.
Cursing under her breath, Carly quickly took the battery out of the phone and stuffed the phone, battery, and back of the phone in her purse before taking hold of Gwen's shoulders and giving them a small, if firm shake. "Gwen. Get ahold of yourself girl. We need to go. Now,"Carly all but hissed, having no patience for a crying girl right now when the situation had suddenly become dire. Ugh, really...why did she have to get herself wrapped up in all of this. "Dry your tears and no more cell phones. I'll talk to the guards and when you're ready, you can wheel Carmela out and join me,"Carly explained after a moment before walking out the door, still murmuring curses under her breath about this entire situation. As if the stench of the hospital wasn't enough to give her a headache, now she had to have a foolish girl on her hands as well. Hopefully the guards would be more reasonable...

Gwendolyn stared at nothing even as she wiped at her tears as Carly instructed. All she could manage at the moment was a blanking of her mind as to not think about what was happening with Yukki's mom. In front of her Carmela watched. She wanted to ask Gwendolyn about the massage on the phone, but she knew that her young ward needed a moment. Carmela wanted to weep herself to see Gwen in such a state. What could have happened?. As if reading Carmela's mind, Gwendolyn spoke. "They have Yukki's mom. They want to trade her for me at midnight tomorrow night" she stated in a monotone almost mechanical voice that did not seem her own since it was much too calm. Gwen took in a shuttering breath and exhaled slowly. Her eyes were still unfocused even as she stood.
Carmela kept her eyes on Gwen as her young master stood. The haunted look spoke volumes as to Gwendolyn's state of mind. The young girl had far exceeded her limit and had broken. She had a look of someone so hopelessly lost. Carmela wished there was time to embrace the girl in a hug and let her cry herself out. To just let it all out and stitch herself back together as a normal girl would. But there was nothing normal about any of them. Not only that, but Carmela could hear Carly out in the hallway speaking with the security detail. They didn't have the luxury of time. It would have to be tough love that would bring Gwen back to her senses.
As zombie Gwen walked past to take the handles of the wheelchair, Carmela reached for her hand. She was glad that Gwen offered no resistance to being yanked down for the stiffening of Carmela's arm would have caused the improvised cast to fail. Carmela's other hand lashed out and slapped the young girl across the face. She probably hit her allot harder than she needed to, but she only had one shot at this. Gwendolyn's face snapped left. She gasped as her hand came up to cup her cheek. "Gwendolyn Donatello Mattias!" Carmela stated firmly. "Enough of this foolishness. What would your father say?" She accused sharply. It broke Carmela's heart to have done this. But there was no other way. An incapacitated Gwendolyn was a handicap they could not afford. They were flying blind on this. They still needed a doctor to discharge her. That little hat-trick was going to be the real miracle.
Gwen blinked. The slap got her attention and the use of her full name burned through the shock. Mention of her father forced a re-boot of her brain as it struggled to focus. Color slowly returned to Gwen's face. She looked about and finally focused on Carmela's eyes. The look to her asked the unspoken question of "Where am I?" To which Carmela replied to her as if a subordinate soldier and not her young master. "Now stay focused, Soldier" Carmela ordered. She reached up and as gently as she could afford to, grabbed Gwen by the back of the neck and brought her in close to stare intensely into the girls eyes. "We are in my hospital room. By we, I mean you, me, and the vampire detective. Our objective is to get past the security and into the detective's custody. My cover is compromised, since I destroyed my casts. We were able to reconstruct the cast to a degree, but it will not hold up to scrutiny. You lost yourself for a moment, but you are a Mattias. I need you at 100% to roll me out that door and past the guards. Keep their focus on you. Don't let them look at me too closely. But most importantly, follows Carly's lead. Are we clear?" Carly explained in full military fashion. She had to be clear. There was no time for questions or buts.
Somehow some sort of fail-safe activated inside of Gwendolyn. Whether it was a Mattias thing, or just something she'd subconsciously come up with on her own, was a question that would be visited at some later time. The events of the last few minutes and select other events since the plane landed were literally wiped from her active memory and buried in the depths of her mind. She is a Mattias. And father would be angry and disappointed in her if he was here. She would not be bested. Not by the likes of the cowards who could not even challenge her... A little girl... face to face. It was time to get back to basics. It was time to get her game on. Color returned to her facial features and Gwendolyn nodded in response. "Yes, of course Carmela. I understand." Gwen replied confidently. Carmela smiled, seeing Gwen returning to her normal self. "Good girl" She replied, letting go of Gwen and turning her attention to the suite door. Gwen disappeared into the bathroom for a minute and then reappeared. Carmela smiled again. "Thats my girl, Lets go".
The door to the room opened and Carmela rolled out with Gwendolyn pushing from behind. Carly was in for the shock of her life, for Gwen looked nothing like what she expected. The girl had somehow done an emotional 180 and showed no signs of wear. She was smiling and literally glowing. Her hair and clothes were in order and she even hummed a little tune that Carly might not recognize, though Carmela did. And it took some effort to keep her features controlled to the TMNT movie soundtrack. "Auntie Carmela and I are ready when you are, Carly." She said cheerfully. "and can we stop for pizza? I'm so hungry I might commit suicide and eat the hospital slop." She said with a giggle. Whatever the guards and Carly were saying seemed almost forgotten as the men just stared and chuckled at the cute little girl.

Carly didn't once look back to see if Gwen did as she was told. In truth, the vampiress was far more worried about the events that had just transpired. Clearly this wolf pup was hell bent on making her job as difficult as possible. Of all the things that Gwen could have done, pulling out a traceable cell phone was probably the worst thing she could have done. Then again, that slip up was probably her own fault for not asking for the cell phone to begin with. If she had taken the phone prior to stepping into the hospital, they could have avoided this complication. Sigh...the only thing they could do now was hope for the best. With any luck, the phone hadn't been on long enough for anybody to trace the signal but then again Carly didn't know how long Gwen had had her phone on before she had finished helping Carmela fix her cast.
Sighing, Carly pushed the thought aside for the time being and stepped outside the hospital room, before putting her best poker face on. This wasn't the time to whine and complain about the unexpected turn of events. They needed to get out of the hospital immediately in case the worst should happen. If the assassins tried anything in the hospital it would put all of them in a bad position. Carly could hold her own in a fight if it came to that but with Carmela supposedly handicapped, that would cause some problems to say the least. Should Gwen get attacked again it would be highly unlikely that Carmela would simply sit idly by like a good little infirm hospital patient.
Thankfully the guards were more intelligent than some of her coworkers back at the precinct. With very little effort, and a few threats about talking to their superiors, the guards and Carly had managed to get Carmela discharged without much fuss. The doctors were not entirely pleased with the turn of events considering the patient had been in critical condition upon arrival. Carly was able to persuade them to reconsider since the patient was now stable and other than pain management, there was very little that they could do anymore. After that, it was a simple matter to get the required medication for pain management that Carmela would supposedly need. Now, if only Gwen would stop being a basket case, Carly's job would be much easier.
No sooner had the thought passed Carly's mind that Gwen herself exited and the vampiress had to fight the urge to gawk at the wolf pup. Whatever had happened in the room after Carly had left had resulted in a complete change in Gwen's demeanor to something similar to the girl she had first met in the interrogation room. Not only that but the wolf pup seemed happy and was humming...what the hell was going on?! Gwen's voice snapped Carly out of her daze of sorts and smiled,"Of course,"the vampiress began before Gwen continued on, complaining about how hungry she was, eliciting a laugh from the detective,"Now hun', there's no need for that. I'm sure my fiance would love to make something up for ya when we get ya'll nice and safe. Everything's already been taking care of, now shall we go?"she continued before gesturing to where the entrance was.

Carmela fought the urge to smile, keeping her expression looking pained. The slight pause and expression change on the detectives face, ever so subtle as it was and virtually undetectable by average humans, told volumes of Carly's surprise to the trained Mattias operative. However, the detective didn't skip a single beat in adjusting. Her performance was excellent. However, Gwendolyn would be awarded the emmy if this were a competition. She was flawless. The girl just glowed. So cute! 'Atta girl!' Carmela thought not having to say a single word. The two had everything under control and running like a Mercedes fresh off the showroom floor.
Gwendolyn giggled at Carly. She went all out as she decided to allow herself to talk like she does around her friends. "Your boyfriend is, like, a chef? How wonderful!. I guess I can, like, wait just a little longer" She said looking genuinely delighted. "Like, no offence" She added, glancing at the guards and doctor. Her expression mellowing to be more serious. "Its a well known fact that movie stars, like, check themselves into hospitals when they need to loose weight for a part in a movie that, like requires them to be thinner." She said as she pushed Carmela's wheel chair down the hall. "Like, It was on access Hollywood last week. A special on celebrity diets" She said, then faked a gag sound as she pretended to put a finger in her mouth to fake an attempt to puke. The doctor shook his head, but the guards were laughing to the point of doubling over. Gwen giggled again and led the way to the exit.
It didn't take long to get the discharge papers and Carmela's belongings. Conversation was mostly initiated by Gwen who seemed to have endless yet pointless thins to say. She looked to be a happy chatterbox of a teen. Carmela knew different. The more normal happy go-lucky teen Gwen acted, the more desperate she was getting. They had to hurry. Cracks began to form in Gwen's act. She felt her body getting heavier and heavier. Each step taking more effort to complete than the last. She had to hurry. She knew something was very wrong. Gwen wheeled Carmela out into the parking lot at a quicker pace than necessary. As they reached the red convertible that belonged to the detective, tears were already welling and one escaped down Gwen's cheek. She slowed to a stop. "I'm sorry" Gwen whispered as she wiped the moisture from her cheek. The smile faded and her expression of exhaustion took its place. Gwendolyn had long ago exceeded her limits. She was exhausted. She'd used up every once of strength she had left. She was apologizing because she simply could not hold out any longer.
Carmela clucked her tongue, not understanding the meaning or seriousness of that apology, her back had been to Gwen the whole time as Gwen pushed from behind. "Nonsense, child. Your father would be proud. Honey, you did great" Carmela said. Gwen shook her head, letting go of the wheelchair and staggering a few steps as she tried to walk around the wheelchair, but her world spun. Carmela saw her sway and jumped out of the wheel chair. "I...cant...." Gwendolyn whispered weakly and collapsed into her guardian's arms, her legs no longer able to support her.
"Gwen?.... Sweetie?...." Carmela shook her gently and called to her. Tears streamed down her young masters cheeks. Gwen's eyes fluttered and she managed to wrap her arms around her guardian before she passed out. Carly took Gwen into her arms and picked her up. "Detective. We need to get my young master to safety quickly. She is in dire need of a decent meal and rest." Carmela said, not really sure if Carly had been serious about her fiance and him cooking. Carmela sighed and eased Gwen into the back seat. She laid the girl down and made her as comfortable as possible before taking her place in the passenger seat and with a sigh, glanced at Carly. "Then we need to discuss our next course of action" she finished.
Gwendolyn knew nothing of the ride to Carly's place. There was just a dreamless darkness. From the darkness she felt a sensation, kind of like floating. She heard words spoken, but it took her a minute to realize it was her name being called. Once she recognized this, she felt herself being shaken gently. Gwen's eyes fluttered open and she gazed upon a blur of someone speaking he name and asking her if she was okay. Gwen did not answer right away. The question intrigued her. Okay?... okay how? Why shouldn't she be okay? She nodded yes, even before the blur cleared as she focused. The big hazel eyes stared at her. Blond hair was unusually dis-sheveled. It was Carmela. "Can you stand, Sweetie?" She heard asked. Gwen's eyes, now clear, looked about. She was sitting up, with help from her guardian, and still in the car. She leaned forward and looked past Carmela to see the blond pretty vampire standing just behind her guardian. Looking past, she could see a storefront. Above were probably apartments, of so she generalized. Hands tugged at her and she knew she had to stand. However, her limbs felt so heavy. It was like the air around her had turned to molasses. As weight was shifted to her legs she knew they would not support her. She shook her head and reached up to put her arms around Carmela's neck instead. Gwen just felt so tired. So drained. She was sure she could walk, if she had time let her body build up the energy, yet she knew that there was no time. She had to get going. So she allowed herself to be carried. Oh, God....She felt like such a baby, but there was nothing more to be done. Her eyes were heavy, but she kept them open.

Whatever had brought about Gwen's sudden change, Carly wasn't going to start speculating right then and there. First things first, they had to get out of the hospital...and fast. They didn't have the time to stop for a snack or anything else for that matter. Thankfully the nurses and doctors were thoroughly distracted by Gwen's performance that they didn't question Carmela's appearance, thank goodness. At the question regarding her boyfriend, Carly chuckled softly and shook her head. "Not boyfriend, fiancé,"the vampiress corrected easily before nodding in reply to the prior question,"Something of a chef, yes. Collin likes to cook as sort of a hobby I guess you could say."she continued before Gwen made the ridiculous comment about Hollywood stars.
"Really now hun', what gossip magazines have ya been reading? I haven't heard nothing like that,"Carly commented before the nurses and doctors ushered them out of the hospital. It seemed they were not as amused by Gwen's joke as the guards were and discharged Carmela as soon as they possibly could. That was good, they could get back home quickly then. Gwen kept on rambling about various inconsequential things but it seemed even that was a façade when they got to the car and the wolf pup shattered almost immediately.
Poor thing, there was little wonder she had only just barely managed to hold it together til then. It had been a long day after all and the vampiress' idiotic coworkers had left her in the interrogation room for hours on end. Most people would've broken hours ago but this pup had managed to last until now...now that was strength. Not long after they had gotten to the car, Gwen collapsed and had to be carried the short distance to the car. Well now, this wasn't good...if Gwen couldn't stand then there was no possible way that she could be of any use should the worst happen; they had to get to the house, and fast.
As soon as both Carmela and Gwen were in the car, Carly sped out of the parking lot and towards her house without hesitation. There was little conversation on the road other than what they would do next now that they had been reunited. It was then that Carly discussed the fear she had about the phone being traced and mentioned giving her coworkers the picture to see if it was bait or if it really was the genuine article but that could be done tomorrow. The important thing now was to get Gwen into a safe place where she could rest since she had to be exhausted after today, that much was clear.
Upon arriving at Un Po' di Tutto, the grocery store that doubled as Carly and Collin's home, Carly couldn't help but smile despite the dire circumstances. Home, she was finally home, perhaps things would get better from here on out...or at least, Carly hoped as much. Besides, she could see Collin again and that thought alone made the vampiress happy. Turning to see Carmela carrying Gwen, Carly's brow furrowed in concern before gesturing for her to follow. It was more important to get Gwen off the street and inside where it was safe, Collin could wait for the time being.
Shortly after entering the establishment, Carly spotted one of the cashiers and approached him. Evan noticed her and finished checking out a customer before smiling and nodding to her in greeting. "Hey Evan, could ya tell Collin I'll be in the loft when ya get a chance? I'd really appreciate it,"Carly asked politely, smiling at the cashier who nodded in return and assured her he would. Thanking him, Carly walked smiled and gestured for Carmela to follow as she led the way down the aisle and towards the stairs that led to the loft.
